for years i have watched mainly rugby league, and some union , the same thing happens every time . the brits have the talent and the smarts but without fail they always run out of steam . fitness , fitness. the last 20 minutes always is the death knell for them . i dont mind im an aussie . well done kiwis . reff tried hard too.

Hi! Can someone explain me why England received a penalty at 29:30? They say that NZ didn’t commit to the maul but the nr. 2 seems to commit. Then the referee call a off-side from England... Just trying to understand :)

From what I could tell (I don't have the audio on), the throw looked not straight which would make sense why it resulted in a scrum (if that is what NZ chose).

The ref has called the penalty for truck and trailer. She indicates that by bumping her fist into her other hand. It's pretty technical, but the call is probably correct. When the England forwards take the ball down they can not pull the catcher forward as the ball goes to the back of the maul, unless the opposition immediately engages. In fact it isn't a maul until they do engage. The NZ forwards stood back so the English were left charging ahead of the ball for a couple of paces, which is all it takes for the offence to be called. By the time they ran into the NZ forward who was probably set up just in case the ref didn't make the call, it was too late.

@@newremote 👍Why was Ketsu yellow carded? 1:43:25 It looked like a fair challenge and I think white 17 took her out and that might have been a penalty for dangerous play on 17. As long as the player is on her feet, she should be allowed to the ball. And there were a few tackles that should have been called as well for dangerous tackles.

@@charlesray9674 The card was for the player leaning on her hands past the ball before she tries the turnover. It was very brief but technically isn't allowed. It's something that is now being enforced more strongly, but five years ago it was a common technique and rarely penalised. The ref did say that she had given a warning about it so you can't really grumble.

@@newremote 👍Thanks. I'm going to rematch match and try to keep track of how many times this was done. I don't recall too many fouls by NZ in the 2nd half so it appears suspect to me right now. England was awarded a penalty try, but why weren't they able to kick a conversion? I'm assuming that a penalty try is worth seven points now, but not several years ago. (I'm trying to learn all parts of the game so excuse the nativity.)

No, the TMO just alerts the ref to check for foul play. In the case of 2021 final, they give her another look at a call previously made (the bad call of Ruahei Demant deflecting the ball when she clearly didn't 👍). In the opening match against Australia, there was TMO alert but in that one the ref decided against a red card against the Wallaroos skipper and showed yellow (there was a direct blow to the head of the NZ #8)

As the std of rugby goes up they reffing goes up - the Ref was lenient to both teams - Black Ferns sealed a lot of ball off illegally - England fail to roll way back of rucks and some high tackles missed - @ yellow cards dubious( penalty to NZ or YC and penalty to England ref chose later ) though suppose last ones hands touched the ground over the ruck - but not really bad - women's center of balance is lower than men's - TBF Ref was giving both teams little time over the ball to turnover - sometimes correctly as tackler failing to release - Good game std in 2021 WC so much higher

The reason your dog was proberly laughing so much is more to do with your lack of understanding the laws of Rugby than anything else. Learn what the law states about the tackle and why she got a yellow card. Hint. Her legs went through the horizontal, Therefor its considered a spear tackle. Also you don't have to land on your head according to the law on tackling to have it be deemed a spear tackle either.

Women are smaller than men, biologically on average. Tall men are easy to find, tall women... Not so much. Then factor that in with the fact that nowhere near as many women play rugby as men, you have your answer.
