So excited to see this film. I've been a fan of Sarah Polley since The Sweet Hereafter and have admired the path she took professionally. She's a special talent and this cast is top notch.

"Religion has fomented these types of structures that have hurt women..." I respectfully think is a bit of an unfair statement. I don't think it's correct to blame a religion, but I exclusively blame those who have warped and twisted a religion so that they can serve their own selfish ends. Or in this case specifically, sexual predators who have twisted and warped Christianity to serve and hide their own abhorent criminal behaviors.

Name a major religion that allows female priests or imams or leaders? Any female prophets? Any female writers in sacred scriptures? Any Gods referred to as she instead of he? Yeah didn’t think so…

@@jacquiedls Deborah in Judges meets most of your requirements...but to get back to the movie...I don't see how a religion that demands it's followers to show love and kindness, can be blamed for what those men did. I'm blaming those men for what they did. Those men chose to do the exact opposite of what theyre supposed to do.

@@mattdavis1735 also answer me why cant a woman be a pope or even a priest? Ill tell you why because religion is inherently sexist and cant handle a woman as an authority figure

This was a boring and terrible film that demeans women under the guise of empowering them.

I am curious if you grew up in a religious community? The power of this movie for me, was in the way the women listened through all of each others fears and completely different perspectives with each other and maintained their faith in their belief of “God” and of each other. I don’t understand how that could possibly be felt as demeaning.
