I don' know if this will explain it... but in my situation Yes I'm also very shy and on top of that an introvert, like I can go through many ways to avoid interacting with ppl while there too need my alone time to recover from interactions... however I wouldn't have that much of a problem to take on an act and do it in front of others since that is not me. I'm not presenting myself, everything that I show is pretend, I'm only playing a role. I'm not an actress but whenever I get a task of doing smth if it is presented as "you are the host(?) of blabla" I think ok I have a job of playing host (you know after the mandatory panic at first)-how would a host behave and then I take on that role. Almost as if I hide the real me behind that act, and it makes it so much easier because when I'm done I just leave it there and go back to my cocoon or whatever hahaha. Quite honestly it can be fun a lot of times, but I don't know if that's a good thing because what if everything I present is just pretending...???

Acting is her "escape mechanism" and because it's "acting", it is not herself, she turns into a different "persona/avatar" so it doesn't affect her and shyness goes away. And it is fair to mention, shyness does not affect the same way to every person. The "normal" shyness is simply a sensation of fear about doing something around other people, but people with shyness is not limited because of it. If shyness is becoming a wall in your life, then there's a chance that it is not shyness and it is more of a phobia, or even social phobia to be more precise and that's a whole different story.

As someone else mentioned shyness doesn’t affect everyone the same way. I’m an actor myself and also a shy person I’m kind of socially awkward but acting has helped my confidence and speaking abilities so now I’m definitely not as shy as when I was younger. I still get shy when talking with large groups of people AS MYSELF and I sweat and shake when talking AS MYSELF. So much of acting is imagination and putting yourself in the circumstances of another character that you’re so focused on what you’re doing that the shyness dissolves into nothing and the nervousness, dissipates when you’re really really in character :) it’s really interesting I hope I helped in answering your question.

Yeah she’s not shy. She’s pretentious. She never came out of the role of Lisbeth Salander. She plays up the whole awkward, shy introvert thing because she thinks it will make her stand out. Genuine shy and introverted people like Keanu Reeves or Kristen Stewart aren’t going on about being introverts (and in Kristen’s case) or shy. They just are. Geez all the hate comments. It's VERY common for actors, performers, singers, stage actors, etc. to be shy and reserve (and even get sick before a performance). But, when it's time to perform (like any job) a little internal switch is flipped and it's time to just do it. Good example is Robert De Niro, an exemplary actor and icon ... go watch any talk show clip with him. Many of them say that when they act ... they get to be someone else that isn't them. I say this as shy person at 66 yrs old, but when I went into my professional job ... I had to flip that switch. It's exhausting to put on that persona daily, and at the end of the day of working I was mentally/emotionally wiped-out.
