The musician Yael Deckelbaum tells in this interview (recorded on July 1, 2023) for the first time about the deep, personal crisis from which her success emerged. The interview - moderated by Katrin Seibold - is in English with German and English subtitles.
As a peace activist, she looks back: "Women wage peace" - this call of the Liberian Nobel Peace Prize winner Leyman Gbowee in 2000 touched her deeply. Since then, she has brought women together as a singer-songwriter and connected people of different religions and cultures.
In 2017, she walked with Palestinian and Israeli women together on the streets of her homeland Israel. The video for Yael Deckelbaum's song "Prayer of the Mothers" shows this peace march and became a symbol that peace is possible in a conflict that has lasted for decades. And Yael Deckelbaum also integrates the men into her vision of peace.
In the interview with moderator Katrin Seibold, the artist Yael Deckelbaum talks about the power of the heart, among men and women, which can unleash the force of life. "It is beyond words. It is beyond logic," she says about what spread among the people there. She also tells about the possibilities that ultimately offer themselves to every human being, to exist between self-assertion and self-sacrifice.

Ich habe Yael gerade am Wochenende in Cottbus beim Yoga United Festival kennengelernt. Sie ist so unglaublich! Sie singt keine Konzertze für die Menschen, sie singt MIT den Menschen zusammen und geht mit ihnen musikalisch in den Dialog. Dabei ist sie so kreativ und herzlich und erreicht die Menschen in ihrem Herzen. Am Ende standen über 1000 Menschen zusamen im Kreis, sangen und weinten und baten Mutter Erde um Frieden. Das war unglaublich emotional und berührend und vereinend.

Vielen Dank für dieses sehr warmherzige und mich sehr berührende Gespräch. Der Frieden und die Liebe zwischen den Menschen ist ein Thema, was mich selbst auch vom Beginn meines Lebens an sehr bewegt und ich zwar schon im Kleinen daran arbeite, mir jedoch oft wünsche, noch viel viel mehr und Größeres zu bewegen. Ich habe die Erfahrung gemacht, dass Dienen und Dienen zwei verschiedene Sachen sind. Es gibt das Dienen aus der eigenen Bedürftigkeit heraus und innerhalb der eigenen Bedürftigkeit, die aus dem Verlust der Verbindung zum inneren schöpferischen und authentischen Kern entstanden ist. Das schwächt immens. Wenn ich mich dieser Bedürftigkeit widme und aus mir einen freien, mental und emotional unabhängigen, souveränen Menschen gemacht habe, der wieder zutiefst verbunden ist mit sich und allem, was in der Welt existiert, dann wird Dienen zur Freude und zum Kraftquell. Yael ❣️ I am VERY sad that I missed two chances to meet you in person ‼️ I live in Greenfield, Massachusetts, where you came to perform at Hawks and Reed, on 2 separate occasions.. Although my late wife, Jude Stein Johnson, and I already were in Love with you and your music via the "Prayer of the Mothers", when you came here the first time, we could not attend, because Jude was already sick with cancer, and I was grieving her death during the second time..
