I think this 5:15 is what might surprise you, all due respect. I disagree DDP was out wrestled by Brunson. I know ppl keep saying that but it they don’t cite anything. The action packed round where the scrambles were plenty, ppl seem to have forgotten one of the more slick empty half pendulum reversals I’ve seen in a long while. Dricus matched a drag down with his own takedown of Brunson. He even matched his sub attempt. Everything Brunson did, DDP did. And saying he was even near Brunson is putting him on par with one of the divisions most elite. Ppl can say he was 39 but he was also in his best form of his career having lost one fight in five years. Brunson gassed BC of DDP’s wrestling and how he grinded him down. Not bc he’s old. Ppl keep saying Izzy is hard to keep down… why ? Yoel is not the benchmark for wrestling takedowns. His lack of takedown wasn’t a result of Izzy’s defense. Which other grappler TRULY was trying to drag Izzy down ? One who could get inside? The answer is none . Well, one . But he lost that fight at LH. Dricus is a very dense, strong 185er. If you go back through his career he was seemingly trying to break the idea that he’s only a grappler. Now all of a sudden ppl think think it’s a novel idea and a feather In His cap. DDP proved to be a formidable kickboxer but going through his old footage, it’s clear his ground work is top class. Bobby knuckles is Australian champion lest we forget and commonwealth games qualifier. He ran laps around him.

This is something that I think everyone is missing. Du plessis have really strong ground game and whenever he was taken down, he wasn't fighting to stop the takedown rather he was fighting to turn the sequence into his benefit. Like you said the pendulum switch he did on Brunson and that Tossi pass on Whittaker doesn't come without a given depth in ground game. I think people just think he's simply using strength and not much technique, when I reality he's using both.

Great Breakdown! DDP has such a unorthodox rhythm and bounce. His arms are super long like abnormally long for his body. He Definitely squares and shows his blitz lots of technical mistakes that Izzy can manipulate. Initial timing causing a head on collision could be a valuable tool for Izzy. DDP needs to press forward and push Issy back. Make Izzy feel his pressure and let him know early he’s gonna have to go in deep waters to win, give him doubt. IF Issy uses his distance management , foot work and technical striking ability to be a sniper and his mind is dialed in he should be victorious. I’m going Issy by 5th round TKO. Tell Mr. T I said hello and I hope the family and school are thriving. Nobody deserves it more than you guys! I mean that. Oss.

I think DDP is looking good for the win. I think it's also his to win or lose. It's all about what he does, if he stays smart, if he is inventive, and if the answer to that is yes, he'll definitely win. Adesanya has skills, bit of height and reach advantage, which he has built so much of his MMA game around, he's experienced with these tough, powerful guys coming at him, but you feel all momentum and options in this fight are DDP's.

DDP beat Strickland, who beat Israel. And he did it in dominating fashion the last 3 rounds. Israel's problem is he has no real grappling skill. So if he gets taken down by DDP, he's going to be in trouble.

The MW division was populated by guys who just didn't understand the methodology (I'm sure by accident), weren't the kind of fighters to tailor their fight to what their opponent does. Just keep walking into it. Kickboxer versus kickboxer, Alex showed his arsenal to be way more developed, broad and honed. His kicks in particular. The second fight was a schooling in kickboxing, until that moment that convinced Israel he still has all the old magic. Strickland then showed, actually, you have a very narrow, limited fight style and the moment someone has the antidote to it, you are lost. Someone of his stature and success, by the 4th round, definitely, should have had some idea of what wasn't working, and what to try, instead. That DDP is such an effective grappler, Israel probably has worked hard on his TDD, thinking it will be more of the same from the past, but just the threat of it changes what you do, and Strickland didn't even pose that threat. That DDP delivers on his grappling, it's vicious gnp or the sub... and he works quickly... I'm wanting the sub. Visually, it's perfect. I know everyone digs a KO, but sometimes subs are just more satisfying. And definitely more so than a decision, even if it is clear cut.

There’s no room for comparison, tennis players are some of the best athletes on the planet. Djokovic, Nadal and Federer were at the top of the world for a combined period of 18 years. Djokovic just won Olympic gold at 37, meaning he won all the major tennis tournaments at least once and id you open a list of all time tennis records, he’s nr1 on most of the lists. I love MMA, but it has a long way to go in order to catch up with the caliber of champions the older sports have.
