Wonderful Montessori: Three-period lesson using the Golden Beads

The three-period lesson using the golden beads is part of Montessori maths. It is especially important for teaching the child decimal places and units, tens, hundreds and thousands.
In traditional maths, numbers are represented numerically in written form. This is an alien concept to the child and the golden beads help the child to really connect the meaning of 1, 10, 100 and 1000 in physical form. This understanding guides the child to really understanding mathematics in a practical way.
