I depends on what you call flopped. The game sold pretty well, so by company standards it's not a flop at all. From a game development point it's actually a very well made game, besides the balancing, so in that regard it's not much of a flop either. It also has a decent bit of content to play through, so in terms of playtime you get your money's worth for sure. The major problem with the game is the post-game content, but does a bad post-game make a game a flop?

Could even introduce the Atlas and Maliwan weapons into the game (as I've noticed they were out of the base game), and call them something like Gaia and Mao Wan, or something.

Definitely agree with this. My friends and i breezed through the campaign on the hardest difficulty while barely paying attention, then did the chaos chambers and got bored pretty quick. Dropped it after a few weeks. Really wish there was more to the game considering how much we loved the original bl2 dlc. Wonderlands just has soooo many problems:(

The main campaign was actually a heck of a lot of fun, hell punching claptrap was probably the icing on the cake. Character creation was also well done and it gives every playthrough a new and exciting feel. The DLC... I was honestly hoping for additional campaigns in form of story like we had for previous Borderlands games... not just different versions of the Chaos chambers with a theme boss at the end. The thing that baffles me the most is why they made the DLCs the way they are. Borderlands 3 had 2 takedowns and 2 pseudo takedowns, which were the cartels and the Halloween event. All four of those probably take about as long, if not longer, as the Wonderlands DLCs. All four of those also were a free addition to the base game. So why did they suddenly make DLCs that are essentially a watered down version of the four takedowns in BL3, that is not only less rewarding, but also takes less time to complete AND costs money on top of that? Especially after every takedown, apart from GTD, was recieved pretty good. Everyone with some basic understanding would know that this business model would fail big time.

They already got their money, so the product they deliver now doesn't really matter. They got paid the price of full DLCs, but their costs are minimal. Their business model didn't fail, it succeeded magnificently. The issue is if they can fix the hit to their reputation before the next game release.

Tbh borderlands 3 already showed me the company is in decline. Although the gameplay is amazing it is horribly mismanaged. The mods on the hardmodes (forgot the name) really killed the game for me. Who on his right mind would add build destroying mods in a multiplayer game.

Wonderlands is just the new TPS. A spinoff that they can release, test and gauge new ideas, and then quickly forget the game while they work on the next main Borderlands. EF, Term and others like them are great but...they just aren't on the same level, nor are they on GB CC team. That's why the smaller, less influential creators are able to bash the game (rightfully so) and people like Moxsy, Joltz and K6 have to beat around the bush because their hands are tied. They can't just outright say the game is shit like Epic NNG can. None of these other creators have anything to lose from it. I remember when the first PLC dropped, a lot of creators were voicing displeasure yet the big three were oddly silent. Even more, I've seen many comments on other creators videos that were upset with the Coiled Captors asking specifically why Joltz or Moxsy weren't saying anything about the backlash. And no, Joltz going back to play BL2 doesn't mean anything. These 3, plus a select few others have a much louder voice than the many others, yet they are silenced by GB. I mean there is a reason K6 gets called Shiller Six. They are unfortunately sellouts and it is why you won't see a video like this on any of their channels.

The biggest blunder by far was endgame, cheap repetition repeated at nauseum and each dlc was just a different form of the chaos chamber, even BL3 mayhem levels were better than chaos, you levelled through gameplay instead of one specific chaos chamber mode and no TVH mode.

I think the base game was very good and funny, exactly what I wanted. But once I had finished the main story, I thought to myself: Time to start that NewGame+!! And when I saw that there was none, I was sad and upset. So I went and did the Chaos Chamber until to get it to 35 and stopped playing. When the first "DLC" came out, I got back into the game, found the starting point and jumped into the mirror, finished it in 10 min and started walking around, looking where to start the next quest of the DLC... After some online research and finding out that this was it, the lack of NewGame+ started to make sense. This game was never meant to be long lasting like the previous Borderlands. I was mad for 10 minutes about preordering the season pass, then told myself: "Never again" and moved on.

Let us not forget that a lot of the original dev team from earlier Borderlands games are not with the company anymore. This includes prominent voice actor David Eddings A.K.A. Claptrap and if you look into the scandals involving Randy Pitchford (even though some are only alleged) you can see a worrying pattern emerging from the dark corners of the company. I think we can all agree that we are dealing with a very different Gearbox than the one that created the first two amazing Borderlands games, and I'm extremely disappointed that such an amazing concept that drew so many people in was used to suck money out of fan's wallets. Gearbox, I miss you. R.I.P.

A DLC I would have like to see is a story told by Maya. She's a big deal in BL3 , like how she left Krieg behind, how she foresaw some tangible things about her future that would only happen when the time was right. All that stuff about her that was build out of, well, nothing. We had to accept it just because, and it felt coming out of nowhere and somewhat inexplicable (going back to Athenas, leaving Krieg, like really???) Since TTW is set betwen 2 and 3, something about her siren journey and her new calling in life metaphorically threaded inside a fantasy story would have interested me a whole lot.

Lemme just write a 500 word essay on this topic. WL is at its core a really good game. The base story is decent for a BL game, there's a large amount of fun side quests, the classes are relatively well designed, every gun feels unique even if there's less than usual, spells and melee are great additions, purple weapons actually feel relevant, and we get some new characters introduced into the series. I would say that the base game was genuinely fun and well worth playing through. This is where the positive sides of the game stop though, and we start to see many flaws. For starters the balancing in this game is, once again, absolutely atrocious. The buffing and nerfing GBX has been doing in response is also just as shit as it was in BL3, showing that they learned nothing from maintaining that game. Random nerfs to top end weapons, only to then buff other random weapons well beyond what the nerfed weapons could ever do. Their buffs to classes also show that they don't have any experience playing these classes, and they clearly have no idea what the actual problems are. Legendary spells are a joke and are still for the most part completely outdone by purples. Melee deals low damage compared to guns and spells, and two or three bosses can't even be killed with melee. The DLCs are obviously really bad. Many people bought the season pass early, purely based on trust in the series due to its previous track record, which is very fair. I myself never suspected that this would be how the DLCs ended up. GBX has decided to completely shit on our trust and give us probably the worst content they have produced to date. I do not see how I can ever trust GBX to deliver a quality DLC again in the future, and I will certainly not buy another season pass of theirs in advance. DLCs are in the end what carries the BL games as a whole. The best experiences are often found in the DLCs, evidenced by the fact that one of those DLCs became the basis for this very game. Having bad DLCs in a BL game at this point is just unacceptable. If they were at least at the level of the headhunters I could have looked past it, but these DLCs are not even that. Another major problem IMO is that we haven't gotten any new classes yet. Each class in this game is only one skill tree, which means that with six skill trees the total roster is only equivalent to two characters in any other BL game. You get through these classes quite quickly. IMO every DLC should have had a new class attached to it, since once gain they are only one skill tree. Heck you could even add in skill trees from older VHs into this game, with some slight tweaking. The fact that we are not getting more classes rapidly is inexcusable. My last problem is with the Chaos Chambers. I like these on a conceptual level, but they fail to actually deliver on pretty much anything. They are not really a challenge unless you deliberately make them so, which introduces the same problem the Mayhem system had in BL3. Given the choice players will pretty much always take the easy route. Especially so when you're running this content just to farm gear, and you want to get through it as quickly as possible. In terms of gear farming though, they're also actually quite useless, but not in the way you might expect. The rate at which you can farm gear in the chambers is relatively high, but the problem is that the gear you farm has no real use. If you can already beat the Chaos Chambers to get the gear, then the gear you get afterwards doesn't add much to your character within the game. There is no dedicated final challenge to really stretch your gear choices like say the Peak in BL2. This makes running the Chaos Chambers a complete waste of time. GBX has honestly really messed up this game. The base game started out well, and was genuinely fun to play, but all of the remaining problems completely kill the replayability of this game. And that is probably the biggest deal, as BL games in general thrive on replayability. This game is pure and utter wasted potential at this point.

To add onto the whole melee getting shafted, there's a gun that was introduced in the 3rd DLC that is pretty much mandatory for a melee build, and changes a melee build to a gun build. It's an automatic shotgun that deals damage based on your melee damage, and can set off some melee procs.

As a board game controlled by a host with a world and personality that the players have to navigate Wonderlands could've REALLY improved by letting other characters from the main cast be dungeon masters instead of just Tina. Let's have a Zero dungeon master world with assassins, robot enemies, and a techno world to explore. Or have Brick dungeon master world with bandits, beasts, and a Wasteland world. one of the dlcs open with Tina saying "just a seco I GOTTA DROP A MONSTER BOMB (in her gravely voice) be back in a bit. Or maybe she goes out to get snacks. Either way, one of the characters we know, maybe Tourge, Gaige, or an awkward Salvador who get pumped to make up or tell a story steps in. Sal says "I've got an AWesome story for you!" (little more talking amongst characters) DLC starts. Towards the end of the dlc, maybe a third, Tina comes back. "Whatch u all doin'?" Salvador you started without me?!" Sal "I was bored and had a good story! You want to join?" Tina "HELL YEAH I WANT TO JOIN!" "Em i see, I see. (Tina looking over the board figuring out what's happening.) TIna "I GOT IT!" Tina Whispers to Sal. Sal "That would be AWESOME!" (or something more Sal like) then she adds a mini boss, who she is playing or something crazy, to wherever you are. Or maybe something else extreme, only changing this part of the story but letting Sal play out the rest of his story. I dont want to listen to tinas story I want Sal's so Tina is now here but not telling the story just changing a section a bit.

I enjoyed the chaos chambers, but i think the reason was because of the raid bosses. Actual raid mechanics to learn. I would have loved if the dlc bosses had that sort of thing instead of just walking in, and deleting the health bar. Love the idea of a character ran dlc, that would be fun as hell.

Personally, while I like Samberg and Sykes, I would have liked the game to have taken place after BL3. All the Sirens and previous vault hunters are away on mission and to pass the time in Sanctuary the NPC's Moxxi, Ellie, Maurice and Marcus are playing a game that Tina runs. Instead of choosing voice types when building your character you choose which NPC will be running them.

You made a great point referring to my trust in their abilities to execute the post game properly. That was one thing BL3 did great. Their post launch support and follow up with tremendous DLC, various patches, buffs, hotfixes, etc etc, really instilled a lot of confidence and made us feel like they cared about the quality of the game. With wonderlands, I'm not getting that. Like you said about chaos chambers, I can't stand mobbing for the sake of mobbing. If I am going to put in the work to get to higher difficulties, which is what chaos chambers are for, then at least let me take that gear back and play the game again. We don't even have new game+. Which has been a borderlands staple since the very get go. Why should I grind and mob to chaos 35? Just to run more pointless chaos chambers?

The great thing about the headhunter packs was that they were 3 bucks and you got a little zone with a story, and some side quests, with a boss at the end. Now they want 10 bucks for a 20 minute dungeon with a mediocre boss fight at the end. Dude even some of the big dlc like pirates booty was 10 bucks. If the dlc was like 4 bucks I would have been fine with it, but in all honest this shit should be free lmao.

i've said it before; ill say it again. we get two new faces in wonderlands. that's two potential campaign ideas. where valentine and tina co-dm. maybe we take a break from the game, and frette tells about their first campaign(with the us playing through it, like how tps has athena tell the events, but we're free to loosely follow it.). two ideas way better than what we got. heck, maybe one where we climb the vines in the beanstalk city higher, and deal with giants or something. maybe make them midgets to subvert our expectations. this game's dlc is where the writers should've had fun. its where they should've showed something really cool to us.

This is coming from someone who loves the borderlands franchise, played through tiny Tina’s assault on Dragons keep, and enjoyed Wonderlands base game, but the end game was extremely lazy, and that so-called DLC was atrocious. I hope they learn from the mistakes with this game when they move forward with its sequel.

All they gotta do is release some more side quests like the one in the game with the bean or the other ones. Maybe like 4 more of those & I'd be happy. Give me a cool fire cave like in FF8, or an underwater king before the ocean is drained asking for help,, or a cool time traveling thing with monsters trying to keep the timeline in order. Those were just off the top of my head. They could cone up with really dope quests considering the RPG setting of the game
