I bought one of these for my garage. Couldn't for the life of me get the coal to burn consistently. Thanks for the tutorial.

I would like to add that if you see shadows between the ash pan and grate that means ashes in the firebox. Continue shaking until all shadows are gone or mostly gone. You can also use a slicing method with the steel by just sliding it in and out. I do both methods. You will always notice more ash inside the fire door because that is where the main flow of air comes from. After all my shaking I use a poker to poke the front ashes down and work the poker through the coal bed so the coal settles down to the grate. You will see it fall down an inch or two then add new coal.

Hello Greg! I am considering this stove. I'd like to ask how much do you spend in coal for the winter?
@kenjett24345 жыл бұрын
I use to have one of these many years ago back when they went by the name wondercoal. The name is changed but still looks the same. The one i had i burned for near 20 years and it was a great stove put out heat like crazy. Now days where i live coal is hard to come by and i am no longer able to cut wood like i use too. But i am looking for one and if i find a place to get coal. I am going to go to my local TSC that still sells the wonderluxs. I just dont like propane heat its expensive and the BTUs just dont feel warm like wood and coal does.

Tsc sells coal, it’s okay if thats all you can find.

Hi Greg, I just purchased a PP41 spa and I saw your video, but it won't let me comment on the video so I decided to talk to you here. I am not sure if I am doing this correctly..I filled the spa and then plugged in..Ran the jets and when I went to shut off the jets, some of them stay on, what does this mean? Also, my bluetooth is not being found on my phone to connect. Thanks for your help in advance.

Most fireplace sets come with a tool u can use for this process most sets come with a poker it's just a straight piece of steel with a point at the end for poking your wood fire up for those that don't want to use a big honking price of steel u can get the set fairly cheap and there nice to have for maintaining your stove

Thought the grate its self is supposed to be moved back and forth

I'm thinking of purchasing one of these. Just to verify can you burn wood and does it come with a blower? Also how well does it disperse heat in you're house and what's your square footage if you don't mind me asking?
@lionpaw387 жыл бұрын
Joseph Meredith it does come with a blower. It's best to have it in a basement and let the heat gravity up. Mine flows up the stairs and disperses. 1500 ft

I do not know much about burning coal, but am consider buying one of these stoves. Could you explain what the knob you turned in the end of your video does? Also can these be used without electricity?
@lionpaw388 жыл бұрын
That knob is the automatic damper control. It allows air under the fire.
@lionpaw388 жыл бұрын
No it does not need electricity

Hi there I just got this stove. Can u do a video on a good way to start this stove? I am having problems like every other time.. any help would be great..
@lionpaw384 жыл бұрын
I dont have it any longer but if your using coal you have to start a wood fire first and get a hot bed of coals. Then slowly add coal and let it catch fire (blue flames) until your coal bed is solid. Full air until it gets going then back it down until you get your desired heat. Burning coal is an art and it takes time to master it. Dont get discouraged .

We had one of these stoves when I was a kid. And it had a handle that actually went over a stud , and you shook the grate. The grates actually moved. Like with interlocking fingers. I just recently bought a new wonderlux and it's completely different. I don't even know how you are supposed to shake it. It looks like a broke handle off a cooking pot. And it won't even go in the slot for the grate ?
@lionpaw387 жыл бұрын
Larry Evans the supplied shaker is a joke that's why you have to do it the way I did. The equipped shaker will jam and it's just not worth the headache.

How long will the stove burn with coal as opposed to wood when you set it up for overnight as you did? Thinking of getting this model for a cabin I'm building
@lionpaw389 жыл бұрын
Bill B On a day where the temp is 20 to 30 it will go 24 hrs without shaking. Although you will need to shake it thoroughly at 24 hrs. My normal is every 8 but when its extremely cold every 4 except over night it will go 8 fairly easy. I think if you run a damper on the pipe your success will be even greater. I'm adding a damper for this winter. The most I ever got out of wood loaded to the hilt was 8 hours......barely.

You did, the cabin I'm building is definitely off grid and I wanted to make sure that it stayed warm over night. I think this model will work as the cabin at best will be about 200 Sq ft

I still burn some coal. Mostly anthracite but some bituminous as well. With the price going up per ton, I'll probably burn more wood than coal this year.
@angrygnome47792 жыл бұрын
Coal is $370 a ton now. I bet you’re back to burning wood.
