This video covers my wife taking the test in Victoria, Australia in July 2023. I edited this video for my wife so she could show her family overseas, plus when we were looking for Vicroad driving tests videos, to study what the test covers in Victoria Australia, we only found one good one, showing what he recorded on his dash cam. But I felt it left out various aspects, which I tried to cover in this video. So this video is not exactly for the Wonder World audience, it's for all future drivers who want to know what they can expect on their P-Plate driving test in Victoria.

Thanks man that's great! I failed the first time in went for it in 93 and got it the second time. Fair shat the first time and just cruised through it the second. Thanks for sharing and we'll done on the driver!

we had our rear L-plate like that, but then I upgraded to a rear magnetic one, same goes with the P-Plate

Interesting that they get you to do headlights, wipers, demisters and horn in Victoria, here in NSW, they only care about the brakes and lights, and they don't even let you bring a mobile phone let alone record it. In NSW, the stop at the stop sign at 6:45 would have been considered too short and you would have failed

Driving instructor from Victoria here! :) How were you allowed to record this? The Licenced Testing Officers at VicRoads would not normally allow a drive test to be recorded. They even ask us to disconnect the dash cam! That is probably why you couldn't find a good video online, and why I am quite surprised by this video. What did you think of the pre-drive check and the drive test in general? In my opinion, our drive test criteria is relatively simple compared to say the UK drive test criteria. As an example, on the UK drive test, you must complete an emergency brake stop - this is non-existent in the VicRoads drive test. Personally, I wouldn't record drive test routes and focus more on assessible tasks. For example, turning right at various intersections/junctions with and without traffic lights, reverse parallel parking, 3 point turn, left turns over bike lanes, lane changes on various roads at different speeds, etc. Understandably in your case and for your channel, this video makes sense. I hope to make a video in the future focusing on assessible tasks. 🙏🏽 I look forward to your responses. Thanks for the video. Congratulations to your wife. 🥳

What does P-plate mean? Are there different levels of licenses?

L = learner, must have a fully licenced driver with you. P = probationary, you can drive on your own, but have a lot of restrictions.

In Victoria there are 4 levels. L = learner, can drive a car with a fully license supervisor. P1 = Red P plater, can drive alone, complying with all P plate conditions and 1 peer passenger, no towing permitted. P2 = Green P plater, must still follow P plate rules but can tow and have as many passengers as there are seatbelts. Finally, full licence, has no P plate conditions.

All of our cars have electronic handbrake. What should I do. Why cant the instructor use the e brake?

The car might not let you use the brake whilst moving due to safety reasons. My car has a button park brake and so I used a driving instructor's car for my test. Cost me $70 for the time but well worth it.

@@lachlanbaker2031 Thanks, i guess ill have to use an instructor. Ive been driving without an instructor for my 120 hours. I should pick an instructor and get used to their car before i take my test. However i have done research and my car is supposed to stop when the ebrake is pulled even at high speeds

Usually VicRoads will not allow an electronic handbrake as @lachlanbaker2031 mentioned due to safety reasons. Maybe give them a call and see what they say, unless you have already had your test as this comment is 3 months old! lol.

The real question is what the highway test is like. Will they fail for driving at or a little below the speed-limit instead of "going with the flow of traffic" because everybody else is breaking the law and speeding? 🤔 (I did. I was literally failed for NOT breaking the law. 😒)

No. You can go up to 10kph under the limit for as long as you like or the speed at which it is safe to drive. You cannot speed for more than 5 seconds at up to 5kph over, and not at all in a school zone or over 5kph over the limit. On my test I went at 5kph below the limit at all times - as taught by my instructor. Gives some breathing space on hills etc.

​@@lachlanbaker2031 Did you know many speedometers are not accurate and are sometimes 2 to 3 km/h out? If you drive too slow on the VicRoads drive test, you can get a 'critical error'. This is a quote from the drive test criteria: "​The applicant travels at 10km/h or more below the speed limit for a substantial part of the stage." - A critical error is recorded. In my dual-control vehicle that I teach students in, the speedometer is 3 km/h out. I always teach my students to manage their speed limit according to the conditions. If it's safe to do 40 km/h, they should be managing that speed. Personally, I'm not a fan of driving instructors that teach 5 to 10 km/h under the speed limit - that gives a false representation of managing speed. Everyone should learn to manage what the speed limit is and drive to the conditions. That's just my professional opinion. 🙏🏽 Cheers.
