IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE " is one of its kind film....a film which has no comparison......i remember how i was not looking for something like this but it struck me soo hard that it became one of my favorite movies ever !!!! and which led me to see all of wong kar wai's (director of the movie) movies...... p.s - (i liked all the other wong kar wai movies too)......... the thing that i liked the most about the movie "in the mood for love " is the attraction of the leads towards each other which was soo much... that it burned my mind and my body !...........but the reality of the situation was and always will be rough and they both couldn't be together .

Thanks so much Daisuke! I've been a fan of yours for months now. I'm currently editing my video on Andrei Tarkovsky, as well as the series introduction. Then I plan on making videos about Jacques Tati and Shane Carruth next! Glad you enjoyed. It means a lot!

Interesting video. I think William Chang should've received a mention though (unless he did and I missed it). What's the image at 15:43 from? I want those colours! 😃

Ah you're completely right. I did gloss over the production design, which is ultimately phenomenal in each film. That aspect of filmmaking is something I'm not as well informed about, so I'll make sure to look into that more with my following videos. And that shot is from one of my own films! I made it about a year ago right before the pandemic truly hit the world. You can find it on my channel. Should be the video uploaded before this one.

Amazing video, with really potent observation about Wong Kar-Wai's use of cinematography, job well done sir! But for the love of God can someone please tell me what the smooth jazz song at 15:03 is. please. I've heard it at like every Japanese steakhouse I've ever been to but if you look up "Japanese Steakhouse Music" nothing comes up lmao. Any help would be appreciated!

Ah apologies. Been a while since I've been able to respond. I can't remember the exact name of the song, but I believe it is present in either Fallen Angels or Chungking Express. Look up the soundtracks for those. If you can't find it, it may very well be from another film of his. But J did get the song off KZbin and it has been included in one of his films.

@@ElijahCinema Ahh thank you so much king! BTW in case anyone is still wondering, five months later lol, I looked it up and the name of the song I was looking for at 15:03 is "Rain, Tear, and Sweat." It's number 5 on the Chungking Express OS. Hope this helps!

Is Criterion doing some new releases. I have In the Mood, and Chungking (DVD and BluRay) that they put out. Although Sony did a nice job with 2046; the quality of the large format print you have to think there is untouched potential there .. 2046 has so much "extra" content as well .. I always wonder if 2046 had one more year of post production how different or it would have been.

I completely agree. It's near impossible to find a good high quality version of 2046. I do believe there was a blu-ray in China, but of course those are region locked. The overall schematics of the Wong Kar-Wai boxster is still up in the air, but one can only hope we get a much needed restoration of 2046. Same with his earlier films as well like Days of Being Wild.
