Won Ton Soup
Ingredients:
For the wontons:
1/2 lb ground pork or shrimp (or a mix)
2 green onions, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
1 egg, beaten
1 pack wonton wrappers (about 30-40)
Salt and pepper to taste
For the soup:
12 cups chicken broth
4 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp rice vinegar
1 1/2 tsp sesame oil
2 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
2-3 green onions, sliced
Bok choy, spinach, or napa cabbage (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1️ Prepare the wonton filling:
In a large bowl, combine the ground pork (or shrimp), finely chopped green onions, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, beaten egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine. 🥟🍖
2️ Assemble the wontons:
Place a wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface. Add about 1 tsp of the filling in the center of the wrapper. Lightly brush the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal. Optionally, fold the corners of the triangle together to make a traditional wonton shape. Repeat until all the filling is used. 🥟
3️ Prepare the soup:
In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil. Add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes to let the flavors meld. 🍲🧄
4️ Cook the wontons:
Gently drop the prepared wontons into the simmering broth. Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the wontons float to the surface and the filling is cooked through.
5 Serve:
Ladle the wonton soup into bowls and garnish with sliced green onions. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Serve hot and enjoy this warm, comforting soup! 😋
