At the age of sixty-ish, I moved to Canada from HK two years ago. I got no problem of adapting to the new country at all. Besides, I completed a post-graduate diploma in digital technology at a university in Toronto last year with flying colours, outperforming the young peers. Age is just a number! Hi senior Hong Kong buddies, just keep on! 👍🦾whether you moved to a foreign country even though you are baby boomers.

Me too! When my whole family emigrated 35+ years ago, I ended up in a small Ontario town but soon found a job of my profession! We, HKers are smarter, more flexible, hardworking, and build human relationships fast! Another success secret: be grateful to the country you immigrated to, thank it everyday, appreciate what it has provided you and your family--most important things in life: Security, freedom, happiness.

It's not only English that makes a successful immigrant. It's a mix of the right attitudes, the foundation of which is the understanding of why we end up where we are. So many immigrants land in a foreign country with unrealistic expectations. E.g., expecting the new country will be just like the country they come from...hence they still hang on to their old ways of life. Without integration and acceptance of the new life, some immigrants end up either having a miserable life, or becoming bitter and withdrawn, or returning to their original country. I must say, from what I've observed, almost ALL HKer immigrants succeed in their new life. Yes, largely because the way of life that we had in the last 180+years was a mix of Chinese and Western upbringing, including education, cultural influences, entertainment, sports, political awareness, world view, human rights/values. All the ingredients for a smooth transition to any new life in UK, US, Canada, Australia, anywhere!
Chinese immigration has a long long history, more notably from the 19th Century to present. One main motivation behind all the immigration waves during the last 3 centuries--is Chinese always look to any land for a better life…they wouldn’t hesitate to leave the home and people they love for a better future, especially for their children. They endure all the hardships related to their jobs, lifestyle changes, language barrier, sometimes political persecution, racism…but through it all, Chinese have endured, persevered, and prospered. This has been our Spirit and Wisdom. HKers who have immigrated recently to England, Canada, and other countries can learn from all our “immigrant ancestors” and hold our identity and brand proud! 香港人加油!

Your National Insurance record. You’ll usually need at least 10 qualifying years on your National Insurance record to get any State Pension. They do not have to be 10 qualifying years in a row.
@@Nelson-n1i Even though I have some English learning background and 30+, I will have times with difficulty to understand the instructions from my English driving instructors like “ take the second right at the end of the road”, “follow the road ahead on the right”, “park your car on the right”. Things like clutch control, brake control and name of car’s component would found easier to be understood in Cantonese than English especially you reach average 50+.
but now they ask us to put your money in pension company not to the government. Such as nest retirement hub and Now pensions Trust. What is the difference between them?
hi, you have mentioned min 10 years of national insurance contribution. is there a minimum amount of national ins contribution per month?if I tailor my monthly salary to pay only 1 pound national ins, is this good enough? thx
@chnet968 Жыл бұрын
As long as you have contribution, the amount is not important. Btw, I don't think it's meaningful to specifically pursue jobs that has £12,580 annual income. There are lots of jobs offering better than that.
@woo-see Жыл бұрын
The amount of NI contribution is based on your income during that tax year
