I love how Kilohearts has developed not only Phaseplant as a whole synth with ultra amounts of customization but also allowed for direct access to each individual effect within the synth as a stand-alone plugin, allowing you to use the effects without loading the whole synth up and gives you incredible depth. Especially in DAWs like Live, Reason, and Bitwig that have ultra-high manipulation of MIDI and Audio effects, matrix editing, and effects creation like Max for Live.

So yeah if you have a single cycle wave or any pitched sound in there boom, really powerful audio rate craziness. Would have been really useful to include how power hungry they are. I own all 3 so here's my experience while running an i7 8750h. Phase plant is by far the most power hungry, even with a decent cpu I have difficulty playing complex and polyphonic patches in real time. If Plant wasn't so power hungry I would use it a lot more. Serum is pretty well optimized, I only ever run into issues if I crank up the unison and play many notes at a time. Vital Is also pretty well optimized. Like Serum, I only have issues if I have many oscillators going at a time, however vital also has different oscillator resolutions so even if you have a less powerful cpu you should still be able to use it at the expense of some audio quality. (phase plant and serum might have that option as well. I haven't found it though)

All three sound great. Although I think there's objectively a winner here in some circumstance, which is Phase Plant since you can enable polyphony on effects, meaning each individual note is processed separately. This matters because if yo have a huge detuned patch that plays chords, using let's say distortion on the overall signal and each separate note is a difference of day and night. Other than that, you can simply choose based on your preference.

If you want, every Wavetable is capable of sounding like a radio. I think on modern Wavetable VSTs the soundquality is on a high level in general and what a synth makes unique is more about the modulation possibilities and a streamlined workflow that doesn't distract you..

with a price tag of $80 its hard not to recommend Vital over the other plugins, you don't even need to pay 80, 25 is just as good. Serum is great and has a fantastic workflow, but comparing the price tags, it's hard to recommend. I know this is a unpopular opinion, but phaseplant is just overpriced comparing it to what else there's on the market. I do like the approach they are going for in sound design but is it really worth paying $418 more than Serum, keep in mind vital is much cheaper than serum too. I wish that people would stop normalizing these ridiculous prices.
@NoNameLeft15003 жыл бұрын
phaseplant is not 418 or whatever that must be the ultimate box.... where every plugin is included... those are differend plugins.. the thing with khz plugins is you can combine them alltogether which is pretty nice... well every effect is a seperate plugin and can used as single plugin anywhere in your mixer ... phaseplant alone costs just 169 when not in sale.. and the complete bundle 349 and you get discounts if you already have parts of the bundle...
@xDanishGamerz3 жыл бұрын
@@NoNameLeft1500 Like I said, I wish you wouldn't normalize the insane price tag of Phaseplant. You can't win me over. 169 is way too much for a plugin that is competing with over 100 of just as capable plugins. The biggest problem in the music industry is that people who isn't willing to buy overpriced plugins are cracking them, people who are willing to pay for over priced plugins will do so and defend the price tag like its their baby and that's just unhealthy for the amateur music industry. I hope that what matt have done here is showing that people who otherwise would download vsts illegally will turn over and buy the plugins instead if the price is right.
@NoNameLeft15003 жыл бұрын
@@xDanishGamerz well I didn't bought it for 169 either but in a sale where it was 50% off or so... however Serum is more expansive with its 189... so price tag wise I think there is no logic phaseplant costs less then serum... And I personally don't think it's overpriced... there went alot of development into those stuff... yes there are some occasional free plugins out there which are absolute top quality wise... and that is amazing... but I don't think 169 for Phaseplant is overpriced... especially not when serum costs 189... I think those are fair prices as long as the quality and features support that price... I can totally understand the argument of overpricing when it comes to some companies who sell plain and simple full parametric EQs for over 500$ or so.. then I also think wtf ?!?! whats going on here? but for those we talk about I think the prices are ok... and like I said.. I think every company does sells and deals from time to time so if you are patient you usually can get everything to a much lower price Just think about how complex those synths are today and all that needs to be coded and in a way that it runs flawlessly and perfomance optimized (hopefully) without compromising the sound quality... those synths today are amazing.. it's fair that they cost a bit of money.... and if they don't well thats absolutely amazing.. and great.. but shouldn't be received as the norm... it is absolutely amazing what matt did yes... developing such great synth and give it out for free... thats wow.. but shouldn't be received as how it should be but as a very special gift.. or so yes there are companies out there that do alot overpricing and where the product is more marketing babble then product... and I don't like those either.. but I can't say that serum or phaseplant are one of those... however I don't try to turn you over... but I don't know if we mean the same plugin... khz phaseplant.. that semi modular synth... well I know a few synths that tend to go in that direction .. zebra for example (which isn't cheap either) but after that I already need to think hard.. I wouldn't say there are 100s of comparable plugins... "as capable" is a bit of a strange term... capable of what.. or maybe you didn't digged deep enough into phaseplant yet... have you tried the demo? ... I think you have a misconception of phaseplant and what is and what it can do.. and what you can do with it.. yes there are things it can't do like those warping/morphing modulators for wavetable... but on the other hand it can do a lot which the others can't I think there is a reason for all 3 of them to exist..
@mobius77453 жыл бұрын
@@xDanishGamerz I think it's fine, the people that has money will pay for whatever the price is, people that doesn't have the money most likely even if it was cheap they would still pirate it because of how easy it is to do that (if you know how to do it). Also I don't think it's overpriced, audio engineering has a lot of work involved in it, Phaseplant especially not only with audio but with everything else, they have amazing support, amazing design, etc. To me it makes sense for Phaseplant to be the most expensive of the 3 because you really get what you pay for.
