When once selects any option from the main menu like Kitchen - a page must open showing sub categories with an image and description like (Mugs/Pots/Pans). Want to be able to open any product to see the full list of items under this category - If selected Mugs a page will all mugs must show with a short description. The one can select the most liked mug to be take to the product page where it can be added to cart. Do you have any info on how to add this to my menu. I do not want drop down sub category under the kitchen tap on the main menu - all these opinions must be inside the kitchen page. Appreciate some direction if you can assist.

I'm still deciding between Woocommerce and Prestashop. I had set up another site in Presta, but it took months to get everything correct. I do need to import categories and products, so this will be the deciding factor. How easy is it to IMPORT categories into Woo without having to do anything else - and get the navigation correct?
@svenhutchinson6 жыл бұрын
Yes it is pretty easy! My advice is to simply create one WooCommerce product and assign it a category then export that product. You can then use that as the template for your import of all your products using the Import/export feature that is built into WooCommerce! The menu/navigation is simply setting up the Menus in the WordPress Menus section and that is really easy. Hope that helps.

@Mibu0417 жыл бұрын
Seems simple enough... but I'm also experiencing problems with the Divi builder! Maybe a basic question to start with: when you have products sorted in subcategories, is it necessary to have BOTH the category and subcategory boxes ticked? Or only the subcategories if you first want categories only to show on the shop page. Also: is it necessary to use an extra catalogue plugin if you want to make use of WooCommerce for a catalogue only?
@svenhutchinson7 жыл бұрын
Hi It isn't necessary to have Both. You need the "Shop page display" setting set to `categories` and the "Default category display" set to `subcategories` if you want to drill down different levels of subcategories to get to the products you want. If however you just want the top level categories to show and then when you click on them it shows the products (not subcategories) then on the 'Default Category display" you set that to `products` not `subcategories`. For Catalogue mode yes you would need www.woocommerce.com/products/catalog-visibility-options/ there is no option for this within WooCommerce itself.
@Mibu0417 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the prompt answer! Seems it doesn't work with Divi though... or I haven't found the right shortcode to insert in a text module? I've only managed to show the categories with [product_categories number="12" parent="0"] , but that didn't take me any further. Should I be adding to that code?
@svenhutchinson7 жыл бұрын
The settings for this are under WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Display > Shop & product pages and then you enter how the Shop and Category pages should function. If this isn't working with your 3rd party theme you'd need to contact your theme provider in this regard. As a site note you can add any product category/subcategory to the Menu/Navigation (just make sure that the "product categories" are available for selection under the Screen Option (top right corner of the page) when on the menu page. Product category Shortcodes use this format [product_category category="tshirts"]

@svenhutchinson7 жыл бұрын
It is part of the themes styling. The theme is www.woocommerce.com/products/proshop/ . You'd need to know php/css code to change this if you are using a different theme that displays it differently. Hope that helps.

Thanks Sven. I will puzzle it out but it will no doubt take me months haha

This might help you get started by adding this plugin : wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/ And then adding this custom CSS : pastebin.com/wedTXSJi . You would want to learn about CSS and then you can adjust that code if needed. Please note you will also need to learn about media queries and add a slightly modified version of that code for mobile sized display as well i.e less than 576px because the layout changes.

I have noticed that some people have had an issue with the Dvi theme and shop categories. I don't have the theme myself. Maybe their support forums have a solution. I would switch to Storefront theme for a minute (you can search for it in the Theme area of your site) and check to see that it is working, you can then simply switch back. This means you will have configured it correctly and that there is something in the Divi theme overriding the settings. There is also another user in this comment section that had a problem with Divi, they may now have a solution as well. Hope that Helps

Thanks for this - Great tips! Question: Why does my page say "Archives: Products" at the top heading where yours just says "Shop"? Where do I change that? www.flashdisplays.ca/shop/

Hallo Sven, thank you for your answer. Yes, I need something for my progress, but can you give me a plugin that I can get free ?

It's not working for me for some reason?

It's likely to be a setting or not having saved something. Do the products show but just not the categories? If you are using a 3rd party theme it maybe worth switching to the default WordPress theme to see if it's the theme causing the issue. I doubt it would be for this particular thing but you never know.

Thank you poour this video but it does not work with divi
@svenhutchinson7 жыл бұрын
Yes unfortunately there seems to be an issue with Divi. I expect it has it's own set of rules which are overriding the core default functions of WooCommerce with the categories display. There are some other people that have commented about this. I'd look to contact the Divi author for a fix here.

how to duplicate a shop page so I can have men and womens in on my menu
@svenhutchinson7 жыл бұрын
You would simply add the category "Mens" to any mens products and category "Womens" to any womens products. You then add those two product categories to your Menu. Once you have done this when a customer clicks on "Mens" all the mens products will show and then the same happens for the "Womens" as well.
