I would have loved having a shader when I briefly did pyrography. Excellent demonstration tutorial. Thank you. Brenda.

Hi Ryn, the pyrography machines have improved over the years. I tried using a solid brass pen tip burner years ago, and I absolutely hated it! Took forever to warm up, and there wasn't a way to change the heat setting. To get different tones meant slowing down or speeding up my hand movement. My "artwork" looked like some sort of dark blob with some lighter values here and there. :)

Good Day Breda, one question l would like you to answer for me that is do you use an extrator fan to take the burn smoke away from yourself, and if not, why, is the burn smoke toxic. PS love your videos.

Hi Michael, What an awesome question! Yes, wood smoke is toxic because of the fine particulates it generates. Do I use an extractor fan? no. I work in a well ventilated area. My boards are on an easel, so my face is not directly over them when burning. Also, I seldom burn at very high heats, so there isn't a lot of smoke being generated. Does that make it perfectly safe? No. That said, you need to do what you feel is safe. For example, I refuse to use stick-n-burn paper. I understand the appeal of it, but I don't think burning through plastic is safe. If you want to use an exactor make sure it can do one of the following: 1) Filter out fine particulates from the smoke 2) Vents the smoke to the outdoors Thank you for the comment and question
