@@CookWoods My favorites are the burls and the unique woods that are uncommon here on the East coast. They give me ideas to make things with wood I would not normally have known about. Burls are great because you never know what you are going to get. I buy much smaller burls but sometimes I get really beautiful wood, other times its not so good. Like you said, it is like a box of chocolates. 😃

Woodmizer makes an add on for their mills that sits in front of where the blade enters the wood. It grinds a path through the bark to remove rocks and dirt before the blade hits them. Something like this might be good for your mill. It won't help with nails or other metal but it does remove a lot of the other junk embedded in the bark.

Beautiful pieces of walnut once they are moistened to highlight the figure! Any 5’ diameter x 3” thick cut offs?? I could drive out to get the best of the best! Have been a Cook woods buyer for years and my birthday #61 and 30th anniversary are coming up soon! It would make my music room quite classy! Also seeking s centerpiece to kiln dry 1.5’ diameter x 1’ tall x 4” opening for the hollowed out block. Either one would make this long time customer a very happy birthday boy! Would the company be willing to donate some black walnut to my project?? Bill M

Hi Bill, thanks so much for commenting! These burls that are coming up this Sunday, November 14th are going to be amazing!! They would perfectly fit the bill. I would encourage you to check them out in our "cookies" section of www.cookwoods.com and select which one would work best for you. If you'd like to save in shipping costs, you could definitely drive out here and pick it up. Treat yourself for your bday. You certainly deserve it!😃

What if you get this heavy flat sheet of metal Approx 3ft X 3ft and make 4 1ft legs that’s going out ward. Turn it upside down (like an upside down table), and put that burrow of wood in top. You would cut less of the burrow. Those 4 legs can always be temporary using wood so when you mill I can slice right through… it’s wood…
@CookWoods2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this idea! We aren't cutting the material that thin. The bottom of the burls are full of rocks so we can't cut any lower or we'd sacrifice too many blades. Hope you have a great day!
