I have to admit at first I was like damn rip it open and start new but very nicely done Sir! I have some termite damage on bottoms of some 2x8 on back porch so termites have been treated and sistered 2x8 to them but thinking of doing this where damage is on bottoms.

I am just a man who never fixed anything trying to fix my first house (fixer-upper), I repaired something similar... I turned out fine but I wish I had seen this before. without knowing I did almost all the steps you did but I didn't know about the wood hardened, dang it. However, I fumigated the area first did "paint" the termite damage with something called copper coat brand? then added the filler and then painted.

thanks boss. i bought a old home and since day 1, a year ago, i noticed a corner section of the top basement step had been corroded. i immediately thought termites. but it did not seem active. i noticed very old termite pegs in the grass. so old that most were buried under overgrowth. anyways, now a year later i decided to just kick the hole and my foot went right into it. what fell out was chunks of wood. they looked like buds of marijuana almost. i found 2 shells i guess you can call them of what looks to be the back of a king termite. im not sure why this did not do more damage then it did. i scraped out the hole with a screwdriver just to see if i saw any activity. it goes back about 6 inches and then hits solid wood where they stopped. im not sure if they left or previous homeowners caught them early and killed them. i did find a old termite tag in the basement from 1981 but the address on it is for a home in another city which is odd. another bucket list project. i will have to scrape the rest our throuroughly and do what you did in the video because this hole infuriates me everytime i see it

What's the paste called you put on the wood filler?

For really huge damage can I use liquid wood hardener, than expandable foam, then after that dries scope out some dried foam and put wood filler in front. When it dries sand , prime for painting. Can you recommend product? My repair area is a lot bigger than yours and deeper.

Nice video. I have made a few parches almost identical. The pretreatment with the hardener sort of turns the failing wood into a plastic. It is very easy to work with. Good luck. JoeB

Should have watched this video before I went and got plastic wood filler at HD. That stuff just balls up and rolls right off the wood doesn't even stick. Going to return it get this.

Sorry if it's a dumb question. But will plaster of paris work on wood??

No. Plaster is not appropriate for wood. It won't bond to wood, won't sand, and it will crack when dry. There are plenty of wood filler products that are more appropriate.

I have not opened my wood filler but it did not come with a part B. (Maybe it's in the can.) should I take it back or trus that there is a part B on the inside. And if I risk it and open it and there is no part B, is it possible that its self hardening?

I might suggest reading the label on the can, it may answer your question.

@@molliesdad4702 used the stuff i bought and it dried no need for hardner. still have to add another coat but it works

The hardener is usually under the lid and the lid can be used to mix in

I would suggest using the hardener, not using it will not allow it to harden completely

Dumb question, I'm sorry - but what's the paint applied on the wood (not the wood hardener/ filler)? Does it stick well? I'm new to these things and try and see if i can fix few things by myself. Thank you.

I believe you're are asking about the first product that was applied to the damaged wood. That product will absorb into the wood and harden it. That is a wood hardener.

Maybe a dumb question but can you just put the liquid hardener that you were painting on the wood in a spray bottle. Would spraying it be easier … just a thought

Yes, but you need to use the wood hardener first and the you can use Bondo to patch with
