Wood Harris on Doing The Wire with Michael K Williams: He's Super Dope (Flashback)

In this flashback, Wood Harris opened up about being on HBO's The Wire, and he reacted to Vlad speaking about being caught off guard when he realized Idris Elba is British. Wood then started speaking about Europeans appreciating African culture and contributions to their culture, as opposed to Black people in America. Wood then pointed out that The Wire never won an Emmy, despite being a wildly popular show. Speaking more about working on the show, Wood Harris shared some of his greatest memories, including being in Baltimore, and some of his biggest scenes. To hear more, including Wood speaking about working on with Michael K Williams, hit the above clip.

@Stephen White Steve.... He wasnt rambling at all. He is 1,000% correct that Greece and Rome got all of their knowledge from Africa. And yes... the Moors came later and stayed in Spain and Europe for 800 years. And they too brought knowledge and culture to white civilization. He wasn't asking for your opinion or approval.... He was just stating FACTS. Think about how the GOP is trying to whitewash history by challenging the existence of slavery and racism (CRT), so you see it wouldnt have been so hard for Europeans to do the same regarding their knowledge gleened from Africa.

No he didn't. Nearly everything he said was incorrect. The Moors didn't bring the written language of Latin to Rome. They also did not civilized Spain or Europe. The Moors (from North Africa) were Berbers and most of them looked more like Gaddafi. There almost certainly were very black Moors because a Jim Crow racial segregation like the USA developed post-Reconstruction era never existed in North Africa or the Iberian region or Italy and Sicily back then. But most the blacks among the Moors were slaves of the Moors. To this very day that same relationship more or less exists even though all of them are Muslims. He is correct on 1 point though but it's a point indirectly made. He like most Americans think of the history of people as simply white vs black. An complete distortion of history. People identified with their tribe, nation, kingdom, or empire. All humanity started off at a tribal level though and some developed into "civilizations" before others. So, what he is correct about--though he never stated it directly--is that outside of the Roman Empire most the white world during ancient times were tribal and what Romans called "barbarians." And some black peoples (not all) has civilizations back during the period of ancient Rome like the black Nubians and black Ethiopians. The Roman Empire was not the same thing as Europe. As a concept the latter came centuries after the former. The Catholic Church created Europe. It is the Catholic Church that civilized the barbarian Celtics and the Germanic tribes not the Moors. The white Germanic Chiefdoms were basically the white versions of Apache Amerindians and black West African Fulani. The Apache were tribal whereas the Aztecs were not. The Fulani were tribal were as black Nubia had a civilization like the Romans and Aztecs did. He is wrong about numbers too. Romans had numbers. Roman numerals. He's mistaking the Muslims bringing Arabic numerals (Arabs are not "black" by the way) as well as the number zero as Rome and the Spanish have no numbers at all. The number zero the Muslims learned from the Hindus of the various kingdoms of India. The only thing Muslims did to Rome centuries ago--centuries before the Crusades began--was for Muslim pirates to sack the City of Rome and they looted the Vatican of gold treasures and art too. Ethiopia made Christianity the religion of its kingdom (Axum) before Rome ever did. Actually Rome was the 3rd or 4th to do so. And Ethiopia never sold mass numbers of black peoples to white slave traders (although I think they did give a black girl as a slave to the Prophet Mohammad) unlike the black Muslim Songhai Empire in West Africa that grew rich selling mass numbers of captured rival black tribes to white slave traders as slaves. But that is the history of black pagan and black Muslim West Africa... centuries (not decades) of selling black children and women to Christian whites and Arab and Berber Muslims as slaves.

This is an intellectual man right there and what he talks about is truth that the public schools don't teach kid's growing up which is messed up and a shame. For me they taught my class in history that all black Americans came from slavery which is the furthest thing from the truth because it's multi reasons and answer's. I didn't find this out until after I was out of school and honestly felt robbed and ashamed of being taught in school. Simply because what they teach you that are lies and what's the actual truth is the furthest thing from reality. For example that Christopher Columbus found America is still being taught even though it's proven he didn't. That George Washington was a straight edge man when he's one of the biggest pot farmers ever in America. That America didn't know what was happening to the Jewish people over in Germany but in reality they did and choose to ignore it for years until we were attacked. These are just some examples out of endless bs they teach us. I feel ashamed and guilty even though it's not my fault for being taught that, i can't help but feel like we're being programed to be racist and one dimensional. This country needs to fix alot of things and were still going off of industrial times when we're not in that period anymore. So maybe just because it worked back then doesn't mean it will now. Instead of evolution of times we're still doing same everything as past. We need to change period.

that "what do you do" question when someone is asking for a shot is a hard pill to swallow when you're young. When you're young, your success can be found just by being in proximity to what you want. All you have to do is show up and not mess it up. The issue is that not everybody is willing to let you be in proximity to them. Proximity will bring you success but FOCUSED hard work and consistency to provide something someone NEEDS will get you to where you actually want to be. I remember telling my cuz like yo I will do WHATEVER I work hard and that ain't how the world works lol. RIP Michael K Williams.

@@elvisbosak7154 Well the banks and financial institutions have prospered through their pilaging of riches which Great Britain has prospered from. Great Britain would not be the Island you see now without it, and it's in a better state than many of the countries GB and the West as a whole continue to interfere with.

It’s a part of UK’s history for sure. In America we brush it under the carpet and try to distance ourselves from it with north south divide which is nonsense. Uk admit to it with museums that honor the horrific and tragic story of slaves. ( maritime museum-Liverpool is a great example) heartbreaking when you visit. USA seems to want to brush it under the carpet and act like BLM fixes everything, they really don’t do history justice. . GB has a terrible history. Still racist and probably always will be. Many countries are suffering and will suffer for years to come under the Great United States empire.
