Another one bites the dust. I love those old panneling rooms.

Having done this before. You are going to see the lines based on what I have seen on this vid. Especially when light hits and shadows. Need more than one coat to do it right. The seems where the panels butt up have to be glued and secured properly because of expansion and contraction. Or they well crack over time. Its a ton of work to do it right. But if your a novice at sheet rock. Might be the way to go. Dont need to remove paneling. Do not run your hand up and down to feel if it is smooth. Run hand horizontally. Then you well see just how bad it really feels. lol . If you have sheetrock experience. Just do it that way. More professional looking when completed and quicker.

Not knocking you but man drywall panels are like 13 bucks a pop, it would have been so much easier and faster with a better finish, also need some oil based primer before paint.

Would the paneling need to be removed before installing? If so, I don't see how drywall would be easier.
@user-ug8sv8lk1k11 күн бұрын
Yes but if you drywall you are ripping all that out, plus mud tape and screws. The easiest would be to just prime and paint the paneling and leave the seems for character…Also drywall joints crack and screws eventually pop through… I personally hate drywall..
@michaelpajewski1029 күн бұрын
Nobody uses oil base paint anymore. any good primer will easily handle the job.

Hi Anthony, I’ll be doing something similar in a house that I’m renovating in order to rent it out. The paneling in this house is ridiculous! Rather than that spackle, I’m wondering if Bondo that’s usually used on cars would work better to fill in the cracks? I’m only filling in the top half of the walls, adding molding to appear as chair rail on the bottom half.
@Anthonybuening3 ай бұрын
Yes that would work just fine just be careful when you sand it down and use a good respirator to protect yourself I didn’t use one in this video but I put one on shortly after just make sure you have one on and proper ventilation

Doing what your doing Will always crack no matter how much you spackle the cracks the only correct way to do it is to drywall tape the joints which it would be less labor intensive to just start over with new drywall I'm a painter and drywall tradesman for 15 years now and one thing i don't use anymore is that crappy pink spackling it is not good stuff at all i just love guys like this making videos on how not to do something lol.

Don't do this guys. Remove paneling and add drywall if there isn't any. This is like putting wood on tape

I did this on my whole house. 2 years later ripped it out to studs after I got sick from mold in the walls. Better to rip these apart and start fresh!! You don't know what's behind those walls ! Insulation is probably crap too so reinsulate at the same time. Just get the Reno loan to do it. Not worth saving money on this it's your health at stake.

@sew04ssАй бұрын
Well you had other issues that had nothing to do with just filling in with compound and painting. That would've happened even if you used drywall without correcting the main problem
@VanillaAttilaАй бұрын
@@sew04ss Yes but doing this you also run into walls cracking. It wasn't too bad, but if you bumped into it between studs where the panel is you'd def get hairline cracks. I did 1000 sqft of it. It works, I just feel like it's only a short term money saver.
