Wood Performance 22XE M8 Cam

Today, Dyno-Dave reviews the Wood Performance 22 XE Cam in our Shop's R&D Bike, GoldenRod!

It’s funny. The woods 22XE may not have put the highest number but two things I noticed from this run and my personal experience with this cam in my bike. First, the torque is as flat and long as a person needs it to be. It’s a ton of fun on the street as it is on the highway twisties. Second, the woods makes such a sweet hot rod song. Even Dave couldn’t help but goose the throttle at the end. lol

Thanks for doing the hard work of testing all of these out and giving us dyno numbers. Can you do a final video wrapping up all your results when you have finished testing all the cams and give your recommendations? Im particularly interested in the 30/30, CR483, the fueling 508 and the Rivas 474 in my Low Rider ST. I live in NEPA and when I get the funds saved up im coming to your shop to get the work done. I really liked how you broke down the graphs and your approach to tuning in the first video of cams on goldenrod.

I have a STREET GLIDE (my 2023) ST-117, and I mounted this CAM W8-22XE, but my opinion, after having tried it, even with a meticulous tuning done by one of the best tuners we have here, is that this CAM is not the best choice for touring, because it opens too late (at around 2500 rpm) and compared to the stock CAM of the 117 (which already has a much better CAM than the 107 and 114) and is already full immediately from 1500 rpm and in terms of linearity (I mean "linearly tuning" the low rpm (from 1500 -2500) with the medium RPM (from 2500-3000) the WM8-22XE does not do a good job, compared to the stock CAM of the 117, the bike loses a lot of fluidity and linearity of the response...So my personal opinion is the following: the performance of power and torque are not all ... For me, linearity of the entire response is even more important and the CAM WOOD WM8-22XE, from this point of view, is sincerely inferior to the stock CAM of the St-117... I'm sorry...

Im trying to decide between this xe or the xd. Riding differences? When the tq kicks in and how flat it goes? Thoughts?

The xd will work similarly to the star 30/30 and the s&s 475

Dave, I was comparing the graphs btwn this and 30/30. The tq kicks in the same time, and not seeing much of a difference btwn the two. Aside from a few tq and hp #'s they dont really seem all that different. Thoughts?

Loving these new videos. This might be a silly question. If we have an extended HD warranty on our FXBBS 114 bikes & possess a SE Pro Street Tuner, will a Dyno tune void said warranty? I know, I know there are much better tuners. 😅 Just curious if I can get more thump w/o breaking the bank. 🛵

You have to call your extended warranty company and ask them that question.

Honestly I’m not sure how to make the cam videos longer without dragging them out and being repetitive. The 22xd will work similar to the S&S 475 and the Star 30/30 cams.

The inverted intake im curious about. I typically see those giant air intakes hanging off your bikes. Any benefits to those inverted ones ?
