for people who are struggling w the shavings, I recommend looking into wood veneers. They are a thin layer of wood, almost like paper, and can easily bend. But if you need them to bend even more, you can put them in hot/boiling water for a couple seconds. it'll loosen it up. just a suggestion for anyone who may be struggling w the shavings.

Is the wood you’re using pretty dry? I’ve been working on some of these using some nice magenta colored cedar and I’ve been having issues with my shavings cracking. Any suggestions for particular types of wood?

To prevent cracking while making the flower I used some water on the first few shavings to make them bendable without cracking. Since they are so thin they dried again quickly after assembly.
