Project was quoted at and came in at $125/ft for the wall, which included tearing out the old one. May be cheaper with out that. The extra dirt and sod was about $3k more. I tried to convince them that a 5 ft return (in from the lake) on either end would be fine so I could save a few bucks. They convinced me a ten foot return is best to go with. glad I made that choice as TS Debbie came in a few weeks after completion and the water topped the wall. Held perfectly. Concrete wall quoted @ $250/ft.

I’m in the intracoastal waterway in South Carolina. Need to fix part of my seawall. What material are you putting against the inside of the seawall. Is it waterproof or like a commercial grade landscaping fabric and let’s water through but not dirt. Thanks

Commercial grade landscaping fabric was used which lets water drain and holds back the sand between the boards. Worked well.

@@Ed-Erny thank you. That’s what I’ll get. Lowes sells it. 6’x100’ roll for $90. Thick stuff I’ll use that. The wakes are washing away my land. Myrtle Beach is crazy. So many people moving here. Can’t figure out why though. It’s not the place it used to be.

I live on a lake in Tampa and have an erosion issue. How much for a wall like this?

If you cut the planks at an angle they will pull tight to the last one placed

Hi baconbits, Sure, the company I went with was Bay Docks Enterprises, Inc in Tampa. I used them because they had a robust design and handled many large waterfront projects (think experience and equipment). You can find them on the web. I hated to pay that much but they said it would last 30 years. The guy who actually did all the work with a helper was Kieth Brunner 727 422 2793 (good guy). He may be out on his own now - not sure.

What kind of auger is that that he is using in the water to make the holes for the pylons and wall boards?

Hi Josh, they "jetted in" the poles and boards. This was an 8 ft pipe (aluminum I think) that was attached to their water pump. So they just moved the sand out of the way and let the pole drop in as they worked the pole down in the sand.

This is pretty smart way to build! Do you know how many yards on concrete have they used? Or how many trucks? How long was the wall? thank you.
@Ed-Erny

+vera4154 For the wood sea wall, there was no concrete used. All the back fill was dirt plus some of the old hardened cement bags from a previous attempt at a seawall that collapsed. The wall we built was 90 feet with two 10 foot end returns.

Sorry Gary, I don't really know. The poles and boards were all pressure treated. That is all I have on it.

what fabric did they use
@Ed-Erny
@Ed-Erny 7 жыл бұрын
The fabric used on the inside of the wall is the common fabric used for French drains to keep sand from going through and clogging up the rocks. It is used here to make sure sand does not migrate out between the vertical boards.

You should have done some research before going with wood as fiberglass with UV inhibitor resists rot and last at least 100 years or possibly more, would of cost you less in the long run as it does not require as much if any maintenance at all. Comes in Round and Sheet pilings. Couple of reputable companies make environmentally friendly composite pilings. Not to mention the composite are also stronger and more tensile, easily handled with a compact backhoe and can be vibratory hammered in with ease. and thus would of took much less time to install, though they would still have to tie-back anchor just the same. Because you went with new wood, now if not you, the new owners of the property will have to deal with replacing this wood retaining wall after 20 years.
