Күн бұрын

This week we FINISH THE LOCOMOTIVE SHOP on the logging railroad. We are adding 2,000 wood shingles and making "cement" floors out of balsa wood.
First, we apply 2,000 wood shingles made by Houseworks. (Houseworks half-scale (1/2" scale) dollhouse miniature cedar shingles 400 fer about seven bucks) Applied with good-old Elmer's Glue. Then stained with Watco Danish Wood Oil. (40% Walnut 60% Natural)
On to the "cement" floor. Just as the walls are balsa wood, the floor is made the same way. Except rather than the joints being burned in with a. wood burning tool, the joints here are cut in with a Zona Saw and then beveled with a three-sided file. Paint applied (should have shot with rattle-can primer first - OOPS) with Walmart acrylic colors mixed with a bit of Golden Acrylic Ground for Pastels Primer. Then cracks scratched in with a sharp point. And finally thin washes of the same type of paint in ick brown and flat black. And a few dobs of enamel gloss black fresh oil spills.
A bit of "soot" added to the roof and FINISHED! Except for the door hardware, hinges and knobs to be added as we get to them.
And no onto Angel's camp at Strebel Springs! The "big city" on the line.

The locomotive shop turned out really great. The shingles and cement floor were nice finishing touch to it. That's a Lot of wood shingles to put on but it makes it more realistic. To bad it sets up so high so you can't see all the fantastic details that you both did. Be safe and thanks for sharing your building and modeling tips. I got a few ideas from it that I can use on my layout.👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂

Dale, Karyn, Really neat! As you would say. For myself, I am about to cut and stick dentiles onto the frieze on the parapet of the viaduct I'm working on. They will be 2mm wide and 3mm high, 0.5mm thick. I only have to cut enough to do both sides of this 1200mm section!😮. N scale for nitty! Really enjoying the terrain and textures you are creating. Karyn's fixtures and fittings are super. Regards Stephen.

More great details that look fantastic. Maybe I being too critical but it seems there should be some flashing on that smoke vent through the roof. The rain storm that washes down the soot will come right through the roof. Old timers used lead or copper sheets.

As you say, every picture tells a story. Great building and wonderful work you have done. Looking at the soot that you "rained" down the roof around the chimney, got me to think about how old are you modeling the building to be? If you have soot rained down at the chimney, wouldn't you have a hint of rust along the metal roof cap? I guess the question is , shouldn't the roof be given more hint of weathering?
@ToyManTelevision

hi guys. As usual a great job with excellent instructions as you go along. You mentioned the wooden shingles came from the/a doll house supply. Was this company in Novato, CA? The reason I ask is The Doll House in Novato no longer is in business as of a year and a half or so ago. And we modelers in the area are still in mourning. If it's not the same oiutfit I'd like to know just who and where. Thanks as always.
