You are amazing Melissa. Your hub is one lucky dude and you both will have an awesome lake house after you are done with your touches. Your repair job here and addressing the root cause is excellent.

You have taken on some jobs that most homeowners wouldn't dare. Making a huge hole in the side of your house may take the cake haha. Great job showing people it can be done

Great start on addressing the water damaged area. I found Gate City Foundation KZbin channel a good place to get info on proper drainage near a foundation. Helped me a lot correcting the mistakes I made from gutter to flat surface and away from my house drainage. Awaiting more videos,Thanks

Thorough job! It amazes me that so much of water problems arise from poor grading at the building site. The homeowner ends up having to do major grading themselves or pay to have it done just to keep the house they bought for a lot of money. This is a good microcosm of what needs to be done sometimes on a larger scale. It shows work that is scalable, and though physically demanding, not beyond the ability of most people.

This is awesome, so many people don't care and/or hire someone else. I like that you took the time to make sure that cut was level, and that the house wrap was tight and lapped correctly. Also, caulking that seem "seemed." good. Not enough carpenters and builders take the care to work as if they lived there. We as professionals all see this in remodels haha. Funny thing is, I see more people in the comments saying you should do this, or that. Its annoying. Days on the job and someone just walks in and asks why didn't you do it this way, or you should have done this. Its like shut up, I'm not wasting my time explaining to you the compounding issues that required this fix.... But you're a lot better at explaining what you do and why you do it. Gotta remind myself that carpenters need people skills too lol. Great video

Great video. How much material was removed due to mold? Honest question, but why do you feel there is no other mold issues in the house?

We had the mold remediation company check the whole house, they have machines that read the type of mold and the toxicity level to determine if it needs removal.

I've ran across a few houses where the siding had to be replaced. They put masonite siding directly on the studs.. there is no OSB sheathing anywhere. The entire house was like that.

Rule of thumb I learned from an old carpenter: cut cedar siding 1/8” longer than needed to allow for shrinkage.

I rarely watch advertisements (product placement) in YT videos as I'm not interested. After 10 seconds my muscle memory clicked the fast forward button. My brain slowly caught up to what i was watching and it looked interesting and genuinely helpful so I went back and watched it. Good ad and team up with the manufacturer. I'm going to pick one up.

great job on that, wish my wife would do some hands on like you do lol....I would have replaced the whole bottom piece with a pvc trim board to avoid any future damage, you can paint alot of them as well.. also for future info if you replace some sheathing that might get water near it try using advantech, its a flake board plywood but nearly indestructible. i left a sheet out all winter in new york with rain and tons of snow, the whole sheet was still perfect the following year, a little gray looking but still solid.. great job on what you did though, keep it up....

In my professional opinion there is nothing better than tar paper as a air/drain barrier...
@WelcometotheWoodsBlog

They don't even sell it anymore at home Depot or Menards in my area. Why do you feel it's superior?
@4BikeMike
@4BikeMike 2 жыл бұрын
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog I have been tearing siding off of homes for almost 4 decades and cannot remember seeing the sheathing under tar paper looking anything but like it was fairly new. I have encountered numerous times finding the sheathing behind house wrap having water stains. No one uses tarpaper anymore because of labor costs. It is more tedious and time consuming to install and must be installed tightly to the surface.. Todays cost of it is a concern too. I use tarpaper on everything I do within reason.
