Wood Turning a badly checked log into a Bowl

Sometimes as wood turners we get logs from people and they can be in quite a state. In this video I got a really badly checked log and I go through the entire process of turning this ugly log into a bowl.

Wood turning can be a dangerous hobby. My videos show my methods of turning and if you do not feel comfortable with my methods please do not copy them but rather use a method you feel comfortable using. Your safety is your responsibility as is the safety in your workshop. Enjoy the videos, hopefully something inspires you or helps you along the way. Irish woodturning is a craft that is dying out and should be preserved so that the tradition of Wood turning in Ireland stays alive and well.

2030 is there a reason for 'pivoting' the tool in this way.?

Yes David there is, entering a cut with the bevil facing away gives you a clean entry then pivoting the gouge puts the inside bevil in contact so you can cut easier and cleaner. I go into it a bit clearer in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnrGiptmi556e6Msi=Y4Gpq2syOZTyXSRS Shay
