I have been using closed cell foam instead of paper to apply CA glue to my pens. The glue goes on smoother and you don’t use anywhere as much glue. Even after a couple of uses you can use them many times. Love your techniques.

I have made two of that kit using acrylics but really like the wood you used. You are right the kit is not the easiest to assemble. Nice work!
@spwoodart7 жыл бұрын
David Shelton hey, thank you. I also have made these kits in acrylic. I made a random rainbow one for my wife that she uses for sewing. Yes, these kits are not the easiest to assemble, but I still like them and keep buying them. Lol Thanks for watching my friend.

Well, if your that curious...I still have that old, but faithful pencil sharpener mounted on the wall of my workshop...! You did a great job making a beautiful clutch pencil....!

Jack Maravola lol, nice! I was wondering if anyone else still used one of the old stand-by pencil sharpeners or had one in their shop. Good to know I'm not the only one. Thank you and thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

Anthony Maida thank you! I'm a huge fan of the Goncalo ALVES wood, machines well and is dense. It tends to darken a little over time, but still looks great. Thank you again and for watching.

I searched out an old school pencil sharpener because I purposefully use yellow Ticonderoga #2 lead (same as HB). The leads are roughly 1.2mm or so and tend to accept knife sharpening with little problems. Anyway if there is nothing blocking my crank sharpener I usually take a few minutes and put fresh points on my pencils once a month. I appreciate your narrative form, very helpful. You go at a nice pace.

Drilling out part, could that be done on a lathe, as i don't have a pillar drill, Great video too
@spwoodart7 жыл бұрын
martkt10 hey, Absolutely you can drill the blanks on your lathe. You could put the blank in a chuck and then use a Jacobs drill chuck in the tail stock. The drilled hole would be completely straight this way. Thanks for watching.

If you have never wood turned a clutch pencil or workshop pencil before I highly recommend doing so. They are a great addition to any shop, are quick to make, and fun to turn. If you would like a more detailed instruction on my pen and pencil making please refer to my other pen videos. Thank you and I hope you enjoy this video. Hey Spiro (sorry if i spelled it wrong) How long have you been using that Turncraft lathe, and do you find it dependable?
@spwoodart7 жыл бұрын
John Parker hi John, no worries on the spelling. It’s Speros, and I’ve been using the lathe for about 5 years with only a few upgrades and replacements. The replacements have mostly been user error, lol. I would recommend the 12” or 10” PSI lathe. It’s been a great little lathe for smaller projects. I have a shop on Amazon too that has the lathes. I get a small profit. :-) Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. www.amazon.com/shop/spwoodart

Woooooooooooaaaah 👍 😲 👍 I've definitely SUBSCRIBED after watching your video. Your Clutch Pencils look to good to risk getting scratched or damaged in your workshop! I'm a house bound artist so I have to rely on such as Ebay or Amazon for my needs, the only problem's with that is I can't actually see the products face to face or feel the quality! I've been looking around for Clutch Pencil kit's but they are surprisingly different to each other but all in the same price bracket! After buying the bushings, blanks along with the kits they are about £30 plus😲😲😲😲😲. I'm in the UK, do you know of anywhere where the kit's etc are more affordable? I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work along with your video's. Apologies for being so inquisitive lol. Take care and have a great weekend 👍 😎👌

Andrew Smith Hello! I’m so glad you have subscribed and enjoyed my videos. I love using the clutch pencils. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any places that you could get clutch pencils in the UK. I get mine from PSI (pen state industries). Amazon doesn’t sell good clutch pen kits in my opinion. Thank you for your kind words, cheers my friend.
