A little late, but just wanted to say how much I appreciate your recognition of our veterans. What a great idea to make a special pen and pass on to a veteran. I am just getting started in pen turning, but will make it a point to make a pen just to give to a vet. Thanks for the inspiration.

I to make pens. Have been for over 25 years. I finally glued my thumb to a blank. CA glue dribbled down onto it and I did not notice. Note to self: keep plenty on the Uncure fluid around and it is great to have the wife help un-stick the blank...after she stops laughing.

I know this video is old. At this point it appears to be five years old. Just like most Americans, I know that veterans have given a lot, have sacrificed a lot, and basically when someone signs up for the military, they have increased their odds of dying at an earlier age than they would have otherwise. My main point is that I want to thank you for reminding me what a huge sacrifice both veterans and their families make and have made to protect all of us. I also think it’s awesome that you were doing something concrete to show your thanks, and multiplying that gift of thanks in such a creative manner.

Just a few questions. Sanding with the metal bushes on, usually, in my experience, ends up with the metal from the bushings bleeding into the grain of the wood. Therefore leaving a darker grey circle at the ends. Applying CA to the blanks with the metal bushings still on would leave it stuck firmly to the bushings.
@RJBWoodTurner Жыл бұрын
Just place if a thin coat of C/A as a sanding sealer won’t usually glue the bushings to the lathe. If it does, tap the bushing on the lather bed and it will come lose. Regards, Bob

Hello Tom, I pull the blank to the end of the mandrel and allow the bushing to hang over. A little downward pressure and the bushing will release. There will be a rough edge on the blank so I go back to the belt sander and use my sanding jig to remove it. Occasionally I put the bushings on the mandrel and use a skew to clean them off. Regards, Bob

Hello. Just got into turning recently. Found, followed, loved your videos. Working my way through them. I really like your style, presentation, and topics. A question please? What is the miter type thing you used to square up the cut offs? Runs in miter slot on sander, looks like same size punch as tube size clamped to it. Looks store bought, though adapted. Thank you again! Sandon

Hello, That’s a squaring jig I got from Tim Geist. Turner’s warehouse sells them I believe. Regards, Bob
