In this wood turning project I create a globe from some English Ash and resin. After watching Andy Phillip make some stunning globes I was inspired to have a go. I wanted to get as much detail as possible, so I printed out some map gores (wedge sections of map) and after turning a sphere I glued them on. This helped to get an accurate representation of the continents and islands etc. Then by using a range of cutters I routed out the oceans, seas and ice-caps. The ice-caps and Greenland were filled with white wood filler and then the whole piece was placed into a mould where I added resin coloured with blue mica powder. The piece was then re-turned, sanded and highly polished. Hope you enjoy this one. Thanks for watching and if you watch this, thank you Andy for the many inspiring projects you create.
I've had a break from uploading videos but I'm back with many projects ready to be released.
This globe is for sale in my ETSY shop. Link below -
