What was the drill/hole attachment you used to bore out the hole in the center?

It’s called a Forstner bit. You can get a set with different sizes.

what's the best way to balance and center a log chunk on a lathe?

Best way would be to use a bandsaw to cut the edges off, but I don’t have that so I just use a center finder and slowly get it balanced haha

Gotta keep your tool handle against your body and keep your hand on the tool rest for control. Take liter cuts starting off it will knock down on the bouncing.

There is a formula but to be honest I just go by feel nowadays. I think @craftsuppliesusa has a good video on the safe speed for a blank based on diameter

What speed (RPMs) do you turn the Bowl, after you have shaped most of the bottom and the piece is fairly balanced on the lathe? I wonder if higher speed is better for turning the wings?😅

About 900. This lathe I had to move the belt to change speeds so it only had a few choices for rpm

I just bought my first lathe and still learning everything - today was the first day I tried to do some basic things on it... But what I don't understand is how come everyone on every video is moving the wood so fast, chunks or wood are flying like crazy while I am able to do only small piece by piece... Is it the speed difference, chisel angle, chisel sharpness or type of wood or something else?

It was pretty wet, had only been drying about a month. Luckily this species doesn't seem to crack or warp much as it dries.
