I have already watched a few of your videos and I think your work is very beautiful. What strikes me when I look at your tools? You grind dry and run the cutters too hot. This leads to the cutting edges quickly becoming blunt.

I like it, I like it, I like it!!! I’ve often wondered why turners lament so over funnel club bowls! We can learn from my hero artist Bob Ross, who often had “happy accidents” and viewed them as opportunities to test one’s creativity ! Your solution not only looks good, but it looks PLANNED! Non turners will think exactly that unless told otherwise! I haven’t had that opportunity yet, but I’m actually looking forward to it! Lol! Life is what we make it- if we keep a positive attitude……!!

Great result! Thank you for sharing this, I’m learning a lot. I’m brand new to turning, so it’s ALL new to me - and I have a question: At about 11:35 in the vid, how are you securing the bowl to the lathe? (At the start, it looks like you’ve got it screwed in to the chuck, but I can’t tell how you’re doing it towards the end after you plugged the hole) Thanks for the help!
@RDMWoodturning
@RDMWoodturning 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Because I used 2 pieces of 1mm veneer to cover the hole, I was still able to gently use the chuck again, as the recess was 2mm deep, so 'just' gave me enough of a hold to smooth everything over. Cheers😎👍

Good save, although you could have turned it thinner and made a lamp shade. I have done what you did. ;-) FYI: Tulip wood is not a poplar, even though it is called Tulip Poplar. It is in the same family as Magnolia. The poplar is related to the Willow. Even though the wood is similar; the leaves, flowers, and seeds are very different. No biggie,...Everyone calls it a Tulip Poplar.
