It's so humbling to watch you create one of these segmented beauties, Gary. My mind is just boggled! I can't think like that. I'm so glad the turning world has you to show us the way! Well done, my friend! Keep safe and keep'em coming! Phil

Thank you so much Phil. And I have this beautiful piece of Sycamore I want to turn but I went and started a BUNCH of glue up jobs and I just want to get them finished. But next week will not be segments. I have my multi-axis turning done...YEE HA! We had the essentials delivered today...Bacon Bits, peanut butter filled pretzels, Costco rotisserie chicken and Toilet Paper. So set for a while. Thank you for your wonderful comments my friend! Take care and stay in front of the lathe! Gary

When I saw the link come up I thought this would be a nice relaxing video. I've never been so tense about anything in my life, right up until you started sanding. So much work done and so many hard flat wooden pieces to explode into matchwood! It is a beautiful bowl.

I know it took more time to assemble all the parts, but I appreciate that you saved materials by doing so, and avoided turning the bulk of your wood into chips. Well done, and quite a beautiful vessel.

When using segments one big advantage is you have a lot less material to turn away. The cost of some of the hardwood makes it a real savings to do it like this. Thanks for watching and commenting. Gary

What a lovely bowl! Your video is such an immediately understood example of the uses of basic math and geometry. I hope kids see this and go, AHA! That's what it's good for! I mean, math makes up everything we touch--as does design, for that matter. This is just a lovely reason to use it. (This from a vintage mechanical engineer. ;))

What a Mammoth Job, Wow! This is days of work compressed into a lousy 17mins. I don't think I will ever have the patience to make something like this. That makes my admiration all that much greater. Respect!

Thank you Rick for your kind words. Perhaps with the rain coming I will have time to straighten up a bit and might be able to show the shop. Problem is I need to part with a few machines that are really taking up space. And that is hard to do..lol Gary

While your skills are superb, and the design and workmanship on this bowl show great creativity...I am most impressed with your lathe "jigs" that help to secure and true the stock. Absolutely perfect! Best wishes and stay healthy.

You’re welcome, Gary. My daughter has done a few pieces for her art degree, if we had the space we’d get a lathe (if we had the money!) I’ll show her your work when she comes back for a visit.

Really beautiful end result and well worth the time taken. I'm going to have a go but I dont have the steady so will have to find a way of supporting it. If it looks nearly as good as yours I'll be happy.

Thank you William. For sure it is worth the time. You can do this without the steady. Nice light cuts I used it because I have it. Check out my video on how to make a star and it should help a lot. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJqQZGCLh9uln5o Thanks for watching, Gary

I've seen a number very, VERY talented wood turners and you're the first I've seen to give a care describing the steps. I can't tell how much that 'turns me the right way.' Subbed.

Thank you very much Keith! These types of turnings and glue ups are a bit complex. I feel I have been given a gift to figure them out. What I did for a living helps for sure. I also feel that it is a gift to be able to share the information I have. I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching and subbing. Gary
