Hey James, what’s the reason for putting your forehead on top of your hand when using the brace, alignment? Extra pressure?
@WoodByWrightHowTo3 жыл бұрын
The most difficult part about using a price vertically is keeping the stationary and in place. Putting your forehead on it just adds a little extra stability. It means that that arm has to work a bit less.

Does the lack of a leg vice hamper this bench in any way? I’m torn between this and a Nicholson style as my first bench. It’s the design capable off adding additional work holding? I’m have zero experience is wood working lol
@WoodByWrightHowTo3 жыл бұрын
It all depends on your woodworking method. For me I almost never use my leg vice. I do it all on the end/face. But in the end it's just a personal preference.

Question: more poplar than yellow pine ??
@WoodByWrightHowTo3 жыл бұрын
Yellow pine is really difficult to find up here. It generally only grows down south. Yellow pine is about the same hardness as poplar. So it would make a great bench top it's actually fairly common down south and on the East Coast as it grows readily and is a lot easier to find than some of the other common hardwoods.

The price on the poplar actually didn't go up much. It's mostly just construction lumber that went up.

@RedStorm.3 жыл бұрын
Sprinkle your glued boards with salt and it wont slip while clamping.
@WoodByWrightHowTo3 жыл бұрын
That is a great tip. Unfortunately wouldn't have fixed this one. It wasn't slipping that was a problem but just running out of time to be able to put winding sticks on them and make adjustments.
