It looks like great fun. The thumb protector is a nice addition to the carving tool set. It's not something I knew existed! I find tools in general to be fascinating, especially the ones involved in making pieces of art. So much fun to be had! Thank you for this demonstration. 😊

Hi Andy ,cracking little demo on those cuts. The thumb guard reminded me of when I worked on a rose nursery, we also had one for the fore finger ,very handy for stripping thorns of rose stems prior to budding rose stocks.cheers mate and thanks for the tutorial and taking me back nearly 60 years,Bram

Hi, Great explanation of the different cuts. Other than the triangle cut, what is the best use, or application for each of the other cuts? Thanks.

Hi Todd... That sounds like a great idea... Definitely on my "to do" list now... I have only carved in Basswood before and it doesn't polish well so I will try it in Oak I think... I'm glad that you liked the video... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy

Nice demonstration of how to work the cuts, might have to give it a try. I know about bass wood, what other types of wood do you suggest to use? Thanks Andy.

Hi Marcia... Thank you so much... I am very much a beginner when it comes to woodcarving and have only used Basswood... But .. Lime..Alder..Willow.. Poplar.. Butternut.. and Birch are supposed to be good carving woods... I would like to try carving some Oak as well but can imagine that it's hard... Please let me know how you get on... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy

Nice Andy. I've only just started turning & have never whittled or carved before. You've encouraged me to have a good go at it. I'm not expecting wonders though. Is the glove you wear cut proof.? Thanks mate 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hi Jim... Thank you... I hope that you are enjoying your woodturning... I do find whittling a nice addition to turning ... I would encourage you to have a go... my first efforts were not good but I am improving... Don't be afraid to try something even if you throw it away, you will have learned something... The cut gloves are NOT cut or stab proof but will stop minor cuts.. Usually just a careless slip but safe practice is the best way... I would recommend the leather thumb guard on the left hand to stop your thumb getting sore... Also as with turning sharp tools are the safest... Learn how to sharpen the knife correctly... Remember to have fun with it and not make it a chore... I hope that this helps... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
