The tool is a pipe wrench ("Stilsons" in the UK) and the white tape is PTFE. The pipe wrench uses the same principle as the monkey wrench but the latter has smooth jaws.
@clivewilliams3661
@clivewilliams3661 11 ай бұрын
Those grips are called STILLSONS in English. In addition to gland nuts they can tighten/loosen threaded pipe - a very useful tool in all sizes apart from the medium one you have. You will need one in the toolchest. PTFE tape is Polytetrafluoroethylene i.e Teflon tape. Its not an adapter but a reducer from 2" to 1 1/2". A sigle Milacor clip is stronger than a worm drive/\jubilee clip particularly as the Jubilee clip ca dig into and split the rubber. never ever use small jubilee clips on fuel lines. The hoses will need clip so as not to stress the pipe.

I have watched every episode every week, from the beginning, I love you guys and your skills and confidence are impressive. I'm a 56 yr old building contractor myself so I've used tools once or twice so I think I know good skills when I see them. Yaba is basically a moving 3 story house. Anywho ill shut up and keep watching. 😃

M. P. You are in my prayers and I look forward to seeing you soon. The name of the tool is "pipe wrench" and the tape is " Teflon tape" there's a yellow one that is required for natural gas fittings. God bless you all and keep up the good work. I've been watching your video's from the beginning and am excited to see Yaba splash.

Hello Yaba , I've been a fan since the first day you bought Yaba. Your I can do it attitude is a very positive tool to have. In Kentucky, we call that wrench a ( pipe wrench ). I noticed the last pipe with the yellow stripe on top of the black pipe. If that is in contact with each other, it will rub a hole just from vibration. After 44 years in the trucking industry, I have learned it would be wise to stop any chance of them touching. Get well soon , M P God bless you guys. I can't wait to see her sailing again ❤❤❤

Love the work you've done Ben, and I'm looking forward to your splashing Yada. Btw, those screws/bolts are called LAG bolts. Lag bolts are wood threaded screws with a hex head. Keep up the energy!!! Also, that large wrench is simply called a pipe wrench. Because it's jaws are slightly offset and they move a bit, that wrench can also grasp a round pipe.

Good call on using Sikaflex instead of being tempted to use 5200 adhesive on the through hull. The previous owner of my boat loved 5200 and I pay for it every time I replace a through hull or fitting in the endless hours of sawing, banging, and swearing as I try to remove it. 5200 is awesome stuff, but one you use it on something, it’s there forever. You did a great job with the through hull and the install of the water hoses. Now I wish you would replace all those plastic fuel lines for the engine with fuel lines that are made for diesel fuel . You really need to put some rubber material between the fuel tanks and where they contact the tank supports and where the tanks contact the hull to stop any place the tanks may wear a hole in them. I don't like bringing up the fuel system, but it should be your number 1 priority before you splash and find you have a problem. A major fuel leak in an engine room has sunk more boats with fires then any other problem on a boat . An engine room fire is almost impossible to put out when it's being fed by hundreds of gallons of diesel from the fuel tanks unless you have a good fire suppression system. Please think about fixing the fuel system like it should be,I'd hate to see you lose your boat you've worked so hard on or your lives. Good luck,stay safe and our prayers are with MP.for a speedy recovery .
@ukandrew
@ukandrew 11 ай бұрын
Very valid points William. In addition Ben cannot trust that the weight of the fuel tanks will keep them down whilst at sea. I see Ben has supported the tanks and held them back but they also need to be held down, and as you say, with some sort of movement absorbing material between all the supports to avoid friction wear.

Big love to you both, especially MP ❤. So close now, we can hear the splash in the not too distant future..!! How exciting. 🎉 I am concerned with the mounting of the raw water intake through-hull as the motion of Yaba thru the water will scoop water into the intake and pressurize the sea water into the cooing system even when the engine is not running. And, without the exhaust to expell the water, it can build up in the exhaust and find its way back into the cylinders. Please consider turning it 180* so that the intake grid is facing aft. There will be plenty of water to draw into the engine without the pressure pushing it into the raw water filter. Great progress..!!! Oh, the big pipe spanner thingy is often called a 'Monkey Wrench', I think. Cheers, Grant - Aelaide, South Australia.
