Wooden or metal flute?

I've always thought it was impossible to tell. I got one and two both wrong. A lot of players with gold flutes describe them as being darker in sound than their silver instruments. I think wall thickness is probably more important. As long as you're not allergic to wood, I think there's something nice about the feel of wood on the lip, and players of wood flutes have commented the increased diameter makes them more natural to hold. You don't need any crutches or add-ons. I played clarinet before flute, and before that saxophone, and I always liked the clarinet being made out of wood. I would have gotten a wooden flute but when I was young they were rare. I saw more in Europe in the 70s. I know from experience my plastic Yamaha alto recorder doesn't sound like plastic -- sounds quite woody -- but it feels like plastic, especially on the lip.

The difference with metal and wood is the after sound or the proper term is resonance hahahha. Metal is more tingly while wood is a lot more cozy.

Note: the sharper and more vibrant the tone, it is made of compact hard metal. The softer and gentler the tone, it might be wood or gold.
