Great idea. I have a friend that paints. I’m going to ask if she wants to collaborate. Hats off to your wife’s painting skills. Thank you as always.

Lol. Usually when I make a plate. It's because I goofed up a bowl. And then turn it into a plate. I do need to make some tho. I'd like to have a few for steaks. Great project Dean. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. A very nice project. Got to have some of them. Did I miss the thickness measurement? What size jaws did you use on the bottom. And if you don't mind could you give me the link to those sanding disc that you used. Thanks again always look forward to your videos. Be safe

Thickness is about 3/16” #3 on the strong hold chuck

Hey Dean, Nice job! You used a 1 inch by 8 inch piece if I understand your comments below correctly? With my PSI Barracuda 2 chuck I would have to go a bit thicker because it doesn't have dovetails. I need 7/16's for both tenons and recesses because of that chuck. Still the Barracuda 2 works well for the money all and all. I like the idea of eating off a plate I made myself. :) Yall have a wonderful day.

Allyn you should not need a tennon or recess that deep. you want to seat off of the front of the jaws never let the back of the jaws touch the wood. I think you just gave me something to talk about in the next Shop Talk. I will try and get my hands on one of those chucks for the video. Thanks for Watching!!

@@DeansWoodworking Hey Dean, I have done a lot of checking and rechecking getting used to this particular chuck. What I found is I need to go as deep as possible with the tenon so it is just barely above the bottom. In my case that is 7/16ths. The same is true for the recess. I have never used the larger 4 inch jaws but the 2 inch jaws are as follows for my specific chuck. 2 1/16th inches for the tenon, 7/16's deep and a 1/2 inch shoulder. For the recess with my chuck I have found that 2 1/8th inches is the perfect size, 7/16th inches deep and a 3/4 inch shoulder. It seems if I use anything less it jumps off the tenon or breaks the recess when I start to be a bit aggressive. If I have a bad catch I immediately stop the lathe and check to make sure it remains properly chucked. That was my personal findings for the PSI Barracuda 2 chuck. You may find them very slightly different because your chuck may have been manufactured slightly differently. Since there is no dovetail you have to compensate a bit. If you make a video on this chuck I would love to see your findings regarding it for both the recess and tenon. Yall have a wonderful day.

Allyn thanks for the info I have never used that particular chuck before but is sounds like you have got it down. Have an awesome day!!!

Nicely done Dean. The plate looks really good. How thick is that blank to begin with? Looks like maybe 5/4. Or is it Norman 1x?
@DeansWoodworking2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Doug, It is a normal 4/4 board just a cut off that I picked up at the woodworkers club. Thanks for Watching!!!

@@DeansWoodworking very good. My tendency is to make what I intend to be platters too deep so that they become shallow bowls. Starting with 1x to begin with would force a shallow dish naturally. I may have to give this a spin.
