I think they sound gorgeous! Hard to describe, but really juicy sounding. Would love to hear them on some high heeled taps, that would be interesting too. Nice rhythms there!

Thank you. Wooden taps on heels would be fab! I’ve just got some new heels too so it would be fun to try 💜

OOO SOUNDS NICE - would be interested in how they wear and how the sound changes through that!!!!

Yes, I love the tone. I’m interested in that too, I’m excited to try them with a live band!

Nice the board makes a difference too. What are you using to tap on?
@rebeccajayneperformer3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, different floors will make a huge difference. This is a sprung board made be @chroma80 on Facebook. I’m not sure what the wood is.

Interesting! Thanks for the video, as I had often wondered. Apart from the slightly higher frequency of your R heel metal tap [which could be the case with any loosened tap] for me the difference is negligible. Are wooden taps significantly lighter? I`ve seen them advertised for sale, but forgotten where.

You’re welcome. The main difference I find is that the wooden taps don’t have the tinny reverb you get with the metals taps. I wouldn’t say they feel that much different to dance in, they’re just a bit softer really. @woodentaps on Instagram are currently trialing them.

Where can I buy these wooden taps?

Hi, unfortunately, I don’t think they went into production with them.

Hello, are these custom made or can be purchased somewhere?
@rebeccajayneperformer3 жыл бұрын
Hi, @woodentaps on Instagram are currently trialing them but all taps are custom made and have a few different woods to choose from.

Interesting..they seem really thick and very similar in sound to the taps, minus the treble. Clean sound though. Mine are thinner and I think have a different kind of tone. If you are interested, check out my recording from 2016 of Making Music Dance. I wear the wooden taps on a number of the recordings. In Tango, I do one section in Sand, one in wooden taps and one in taps. There, because of the recording, I don't think they sound as different as usual. You can also check out some of the Finding Synesthesia clips from 2008 where I have wooden taps on. There is a real spike in interest right now it seems.

Thank you for comment Heather. I’ll definitely have a look at those recordings. You’re exactly right about the sound, I’d be interested in trying some different ones too to test the difference x

An interesting journey into sound - but, in this case, unfortunately not a really fruitful one. To each its own, but for uneducated ears the result of the experiment is dull and uninteresting. Wood on wood lacks any rhythmical articulation (let alone precision). On the contrary, it just sounds like stomping around - without expression and meaning. In the end it works for other tap "artists" already tired of doing things the ordinary way, but for a simple minded audience that wants to be entertained, it is meaningless. This is not a provocative statement ment to start a quarrel (I know perfectly well that old-fashioned tap lost this battle many years ago) but being an old man remembering the heydays of tap posts like this one sometimes just make me sad.

Thank you for your opinion. This video was simply to experiment with different sounds and test them out for a new company to review them. This particular video wasn’t meant to be entertaining and I used simple steps intentionally to make the sound differences clear. My choreography style is very different to this which you can hopefully see from some of my other videos and things I will be working on in the future. The main reason I love tap is that there are so many different styles with in it and it’s a great way to express yourself and feel the music so I understand not every style is to everyone’s taste but it’s still important to experiment and appreciate them.

Artists are known for always doing things in the ‘ordinary way’.
