If you watch this later you find that she COULD HAVE BEEN interesting, but sadly Anet ruined a somewhat interesting concept with juvenile writing. I firmly believe they have been getting better at the whole writing thing in recent times, but Scarlett was as bland as a brick with a smiley face drawn on it.

By the way, I find myself coming to your channel way too often b/c I also love the lore and your insights are amazing. Maybe the end of culling and those massive map attacks was a technical test in preparation for the Battle of Divinity Reach. Love these video. I really do. Today is my cake day as well so this was a nice surprise to log in to see. :) I was a little disappointed with the amount of story, but at the same time you have to watch a TV show every week to see what happens and I kind of equate that to this. I am not in love with that but it is what it is.

Thanks for this video--I'm so busy I dont get a lot of time to play sometimes so I've missed out--and goodness I'm so glad I've tried to catch up because I'm very impressed with what anet is doing! However I do agree with you--it does feel kinda vague and fuzzy. They need to solidify their arches, characters, and so forth, but anet does have a good track record of listening to us and fixing mistakes. I really hope future updates go somewhat in the direction of what you've theorized.

I believe we've only seen the opening of Scarlet. My experience of Anet's lore is that they tend to leave mysteries and questions behind so that these aren't closed-off stories. It works well if we'll see Scarlet again, because we don't actually kill her. I can't wait for that day; she's one of my favourite villains.

This most recent patch may have been vague and wide open but it adds some support to my theory of a rogue faction of Sylvari. Scarlet's connection to the Molten Alliance potentially (and likely) aligns her with Canach. It's a very vague and general theory but it's a start.

When they were saying the update would tie things together, I didn't think they meant "tie up," as in finish. I thought they just meant things would tie together, which they do - even if a bit sloppy. At the same time, the loose ends do leave it opened for the future. Personally, I think now that sylvari and asura are getting more involved, the next bit (aside from the SAB) will bring Zojja and Caithe in more. Not sure how, but more story with the Pale Tree and Inquest seems ever more fitting.

It was an unfounded speculation, made only because we knew arenanet wanted to tie the story together. The person founding the alliance was a 'city dweller'. Can we even say that about Scarlet? She's been to rata sum. For a while. This is all we know. Is that enough?

I think the molten Alliance ties great into this. We know from FnF that there were someone, organising the Alliance. That person is almost 100% sure to be Scarlet. And it doesn't have to end with Scarlet just now. I like that we have seen her, and she tried to do what ever her plan was, and we stopped it, and she will rework it OR maybe, this was just to test the people of Tyria? I think this is just the beginning of melthing it all together.

You hit the nail on the head in this vid. To sum up what I think, It dose feel very sloppy. Instances were fun for sure. However something jumped in my mind after Vorp showed up to help out. Do you think we are seeing the early stages of a new Band of Heroes? First we met Rox and Braham, now Vorp. We just need a new Human and Sylvari to round out the group. Also I have strange feeling Scarlet might show up in SAB. I can totally see her trapping us in the box and us fighting are way out.

I thought they said that this would just bring stuff to a head and show us where it was going. So not actually a conclusion, (which it hasn't even been close too since Scarlet lives). I think this one is just showing us the way we are going, the true face of our new villain. This super bad Scarlet and the people who are following her. (Really shocked the fire legion is following a woman, especially such a flammable one). I can't wait to see what comes next. It got me very excited.

If I remember the end of F&F rightly, you end up interrogating some Molten Alliance guys in the Black Citadel's jails and you do learn that the Flame Legion and Dredge were put together by an external actor (presumably now, that was Scarlet).So the idea that the Molten Alliance is *randomly* helping Scarlet in Clockwork Chaos I think forgets this. I think she was always behind that alliance; no alternative reason for their alliance was ever given as far as I know.

I also think that one of the best things that could happen in future updates is content inspired by fan theories. That the queen who gave the speech turned out to be an illusion was great, especially because of the speculation that the queen herself is merely an illusion of Anise's. This seems a lot more plausible now. Since the queen who gave the speech was a fake, why was the real queen still around? Is the one who appeared later perhaps a last-minute illusion cast after the explosion?

A bit of a wild card theory is that she could be a dragon minion. If you think about it for a second both the mouth of zhaitan and the eye of zhaitan were very intelligent and seen as the dragon are almost god-like then the claim that she understands the eternal alchemy is not to far fetched.

I think "What Scarlet Saw" does wonders for fleshing out her character, and paints a vivid picture of one of the greatest threats Tyria has ever known. She's the Lex Luthor of GW2, & when someone as dangerous as her puts you on the top of her shit list, that's a serious thing. There's a bit of a cool game mechanic where goons from the Charr's personal story actually ambush & attack you OUTSIDE of the story at random. I hope we see more stuff like that especially now that Scarlet's targeting us.

the aetherblades are confirmed to work for scarlet. during the open world event, there's a moment scarlet says "have you met the aetherblades? they work for me!". i think she might have said something about the molten alliance as well.

Its not just the aetherblades and the molten alliance. If you're lucky during the chaos events you'll run into a group of steam minotaurs like you find in the infinity ball personal story and out in the higher level shiverpeaks. Also, if you look closely the veteran clockwork, twisted nightmares, look like karka.

I used to think that content was pushing towards the Crystal Desert after the Zephyrites. Now I believe more and more that we are going to be pushing west into the Maguuma Wastes. Perhaps Scarlet has something to do with the Bandits at Fort Vandal in the Brisban Wildlands and the other Pale Tree? Maybe we will speak to Caithe and/or Trahearn about Scarlet since they are firstborn?

I don't believe anyone at Anet stated that this patch would wrap everything up. They stated that an upcoming patch would but they did not specifically state that it would be this patch to the best of my knowledge. In addition, Scarlet does state that the Aetherblade do work for her 'because they like living' suggesting that they perhaps do not serve her out of choice. I haven't heard her mention the Molten Alliance but maybet whatever hold she has over the Aetherblade extends to them as well.

The story arc idea is a solid one. Anet needs to take inspiration from comic books: long form storytelling where readers can drop in and out at random times. Comics generally have single, contained stories that last anywhere from 6 to 12 issues that are complete stories within themselves. They are rarely referenced again, except obliquely, and when those references are necessary (returning villain) all pertinent information is summarized in a line or two.

Well, regarding the connection between Scarlet and the Aetherblades, during the invasions she does say something like "This are the Aetherblades, they belong to me". Regarding the Molten Alliance, there's still no conection, as far as I know.

I'm assuming the steam creatures were made by Scarlet. But a theory I have is an alternate universe-type-thing. This is the split in the universe. If Scarlet succeeded in her invasion of Tyria, then all of the personal story stuff would have happened, Shodd would have eventually showed up and what not. But we stopped her, and now our version of reality is happening. I'd go as far to say the Lonar's pass steam guys, are bleeding from the current invasion.

Well, as far as the Molten Alliance goes, if you visited a dredge in the Black Citadel prison during the last F&F update, you can try to interrogate him and he says something like, "I won't tell you anything! -She'll- do much worse to me than you can!"

maybe we get to go back to the molten alliance, because, come on Rox and Braham were very present in this living story and they kinda are THE characters connected to the molten alliance story and I can imagine that after scarlet is defeated they start to think about why the molten were there as well and what their connection to Scarlet is. so maybe we get another investigation about them or something that shows a revelation that isn't sloppy at all, I at least hope for something alike.

Oh, haven't really thought of it that way. So some newborn sylvari might be 'born' with some of her knowledge.. ? That would make some interesting plot, too, though! I mean, if she knows something about it, some day, someone might be able to use parts of her knowledge as well. o: Hmm, just found a similar metaphor with a well instead on the wiki. So that's what explains their individuality! I should start reading the wiki more often again.. Farming distracts me from so much interesting lore.

I like Scarlet as a character and her story with the Asura is really interesting to me because I wanna know why the Asura let her into the Colleges and who the mystery benefactor is but i agree that she is kind of a cop out. I wish she had more secret motivation for why shes messing with stuff. I like her maniac raving crazy personality though, reminds me of a GW2 Harley Quinn and also reminds me of the Raving Asura fractal. Or some Asuran personalities .

That was my first thought, too. But I don't really think she is.. It would be boring to have friendly and heroic characters only, like Queen Jennah or Logan. I quite like her, because she's a little bit 'mean' sometimes, quite a sassy character. It's just a certrain trait she has that makes her stand out from the other human personal story characters.

Guest on another server that's less populated. That should help. Also, you can do the daily achievement that's tied to this living story update, and that will count as one of the living story achievements. So you can still get the meta achievement just by doing dailies.

Just a note.. At the end of the Aetherblade dungeon when you fought Captain Mai Trin and her first mate, she says "This has all gone to crud. Scarlet's gonna have my noggin for screwing up." So it was kinda already known (To the observant) that she was their leader

These living stories, which you point out but do not think it is realized enough. So molten alliance had dredge portal out of nowhere, as did the Aetherblades. But there is more. These waves of minions portal too. And I would hope Queen Jennahs mesmer portal idea might tie into this. I am curious where these things are portaling from and I think there is a strong chance of the Reactor reality of happening.

My main reason for this is Anet said everything so far would be wrapped up, but as we saw, the stuff with the consortium wasn't addressed at all. So there might be some connection between Scarlet and the Consortium if we go by that logic. Just my thoughts though

just being pedantic; but aetherblades dont really come out of the same portals twisted/steam creatures come out of (they drop from a ship... which presumably came from a portal as happens at other places) and molten alliance dig out of the ground (well... the tunnelling devices do... ive never seen a champion molten alliance spawn)

Each Pale Tree could be a "Champion" of the nature elder dragon. Our current pale tree could be a good version (like Glint) due to the influence of Ronan and Ventari? While the other pale trees are still under the influence of the Nature Elder Dragon? We see references to another pale tree during a sylvari personal story line. Could Scarlet be born of another pale tree? If Scarlet is of our current pale tree, I'm sure Caithe, Trahearne would be involved because they should know of her existence?

My question is why does all her creations look like creatures from the maguuma jungle. Specifically, breeze riders, rock dogs, and wasps. There are a ton of them in Brisban Wildlands and I can't help but feel like that connection is significant.

One thing I thought was interesting was the dialog at the end of the world events. If you kill Scarlet she says something like "Oh the mists aren't ready for me. (dying chuckle)" and her voice sounds very weak. I can't see if she teleports away or actually dies because there are always 500 people there, but what if Scarlet is a slider and just hops between realities collecting more of her selves to run those invasions. Scarlet Prime is still alive and escapes the dungeon, but others versions die

Thanks for the video. One clarification: I don't believe at any point was there any mention of a "mysterious benefactor" financing her education. The line is, "Of course. I know of this Scarlet. She earned advanced engineering degrees at each of Rata Sum's colleges in record time." If there was some other conversation in which this "mysterious benefactor" was brought up, I completely missed it. Where did you hear it?

I don't think we have all the information about it, I think of the first year as one story with different arcs; Arc 0: Southsun, Arc 1: Flame and Frost, Arc 2: Aetherblades Attack(Dragon Bash-Cutthroat Politics), Arc 3: Scarlet. I think this arc is going to wrap everything up, not Clockwork Chaos specifically.

The dream doesnt work like that. Only newborn sylvari would have the benefit, and it's not specific. Think of all sylvari knowledge and experience is formed in a large lake in the dream. Each sylvari born takes a bucket of water from the lake.
