The huge round edges in the corners make it look obviously fake and cheap. I like the idea, a lot of companies use CNC milled MDF-HDF panels for doors but use a stepped bit or very fine bit for the corners so they actually look like a real 5 piece door.

This sounds like a great way to produce faux raised panel doors at a fraction of the time and cost of the real thing, I do have one question, however. At 2:00, you suggest using veneered MDF for a solid wood appearance. If you do that, then what treatment do you suggest to cover the exposed MDF where the router cut the groves so it does not look so ugly and blends with the hardwood veneer? If the raw exposed MDF can't be covered, am I correct in believing that this is practical only for painted cabinet door applications?

Yes that was the problem here in Ireland in the early eighty's when you router MDF we use to mix a small amount of stain though the laquar and blew in the edges and grouves then we tinted the laquar for the final coat you had to match the stain to suit the venner

MDF sucks, sorry. It maybe a nice surface to look at but is it durable - no.

where could I get the router bits?
@overdalimit7 жыл бұрын
It's durable if it's sealed... then painted.. that way moisture can't penetrate it.
@patrickkelly70007 жыл бұрын
Seal with primer 3 coats white primer for painting Use Moisture Resistant MDF if using near wet area standard MDF will crack the paint on the edges ps MR MDF better less Sanding better finish
