Fantastic video Adam. The video sequences are superb, and I especially like the Wallpaper images at the end. The light streaming through from behind and lighting up the mossy lichen tress just made them for me.

Stumbled upon your videos and enjoy them very much. I'm not a photographer but I must say you have the "art of seeing" down very well. Your moss photos look like Robert Bateman prints or vice versa. Your making me homesick for British Columbia. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I taught everything Bateman knows about composition, haha. In all seriousness though studying the work of other artisits and mediums is a fantastic way to learn about photographic compostion.

Thanks for great work. Nice to see what photography is about. Original work, seeing something new, creating personal images. To many make the same photos of the same things on the same well to known location. You make your own tripodholes ! Respect !

Thanks, Jeppe! It's often difficult to make new tripod holes, especially in areas that are at the top of every outdoor photographer's list. I do have an advantage in that Canada is vast and has a small population. Thanks again.

That light, and your handling of it, turned the park into a magical location, Adam. I'd say you added a bunch of content to your portfolio. At the beginning, I thought your drone was heading for a look at that raven. :-)

I like how there are still comps in locations previously visited. I thought you were going to take an upclose of that mushroom on a stump behind you with the trunks as foreground. That fungus was just screaming, "Hey, what about me?!" :)

Ok, so I have watched this vlog and... there is a town near Paris, called Sèvres. There are prototypes of kilogram and meter stored. I think they should put this episode there, as a prototype of the landscape photography vlog ;) absolutely brilliant photos, footage and you chose right music again. If it would not take 16h flight for me to get to Canada, I would already be there. Thanks for sharing. Happy New year!

What's up Adam? I've been watching your channel for quite some time now. The reason it has taken me so long to comment is because I have been viewing your channel from a smart TV. Of course, that's no excuse. Anyway, I love your work. The first shot you showed was really quite nice. The out of focus part of the shot gave it a certain artistic flair with the soft back lighting. Besides, you shot it on a 4x5, and that makes it really tight. I also live how you teach your tutorials; they are very informative. About your F4 crew; I love the chemistry you guys have together. All I see is lasting friendships. Peace my friend, and keep on shooting.

Wonderful!!! I feel like I'm there looking at the photographs!! I live at the seashore but we have 3 state forests nearby and that seems to be where I'm drawn these days. No uniform trees...the forests appear to be dying from a variety of things. I photograph there all the time. I just can't seem to get enough and I fear in about 20 years it will all be gone. Enjoying your videos!
@QuietLightPhoto
@QuietLightPhoto 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Sharon! Unfortunately, your observations about forests and nature, in general, are not far from your fears. Wildlife, wildlife habit, plant life and the like are all disappearing at alarming rates. It is very concerning. Not to be a Debbie Downer I'm glad to hear that you have found local areas that you enjoy to photograph.
@Fotograffa
@Fotograffa 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for responding. Government has no money in their budget and even if they did I'm sure the forests wouldn't not be a priority. When the trees are gone and there is no oxygen and pollution takes over maybe someone will wonder if they should have or could have preserved the forests and woodlands. By then it will be too late. For now I'm spending my time there and loving every moment. I would like to find local groups involved in helping to preserve the forests. I need to feel involved in an effort I feel is vital. Have a wonderful New Year.

The shots at 15:10 and 15:40 are fantastic. I have some forestland of my own down in Oregon that’s kind of similar, but with a lot more brush which makes it really hard for me to find any compositions. I do have some good vine maples though so this is giving me ideas, if I go there when it’s foggy.

I know what you mean regarding light first - without it you haven't got an image, but my take is that if you're lucky enough to have found good light and go seeking a strong subject and composition, by the time you're ready to press the shutter button the light may have gone - in this video everything changes so rapidly. I'm firmly in the "find your composition then wait for the light" camp. If it doesn't come, return another day - as you always demonstrate, perseverance is key :) (BTW, sorry for being so late to the party!)
@QuietLightPhoto
@QuietLightPhoto 6 жыл бұрын
For sure, finding a composition and waiting for the light is a good way to go, however sometimes the light might be the composition itself and can be hard to predict, shadows, fill light, spot light and so on.

I continue to benefit from your insights for photographing in the forests. I have not been back for a few years, but I am sure I can do so much better than I have eve done before. The arching Vine Maples worked very well to me, especially the first one. The best of the set. Your image at the beginning, it is no surprise that it is one of your best selling prints. Absolutely stunning. I must add that your video footage is on par with your photography. A perfect balance.

Great to hear Glen. The video has definitely been a big learning curve. Fundamentally video seems to be not much unlike photography, good light and composition seem to be key. The hard part is the editing and keeping the story moving. Right now, keeping everything basic seems to work for me and as I learn more about the craft can start adding some more advanced videography along with advanced editing. I must admit it has been a lot of fun and I think that helps tremendously if it wasn't fun it would probably show through. Happy New Year!

Terrific work, Adam. There are two sections of woodland not too far from my home that have me coming back again and again. The maple shot certainly has a lot going on, but woodlands do. The way you have separated the light and shadow as well as colour on individual components saves the image from being a sea of green and for me, it works well but then I like woodland so maybe a bit biased

I love the bright green moss wrapping and draping off the trees - it's like Dr. Seuss decorated in there for St. Patrick's Day (same with Olympic National Park in Washington state). Very informative video, Mr. Gibbs. Looks like it would be difficult not to take an interesting photo at that location, but your emphasis on the way the backlight brings out the shapes and textures is spot on, resulting in many lush, evocative images. Also: What you call "wallpaper" photos I just call detail shots - they help tremendously in telling a more complete story of a location. Thanks for posting and happy travels in 2018. Cheers!

Awesome video. I love your emphasis on light. It is something I think that I have neglected in my own recent venture into photography, and probably a big reason why I never seem quite content with the images I get. Thanks for advice and the videos.
