I'm on my 2nd LT15. Yeah, the rope pulley system was always stupid. I just push my current LT15 by hand. I like your solution!
@307j.o.a.t99 ай бұрын
Wow.... 2nd one. Thats a lot of lumber to wear out an LT15. Thats awesome! Yea I definently wasn't happy with the rope system. i have a new(er) video adding wheelchair motors to the mill to drive it. Im currently out of logs but hopefully I will get a bunch stockpiled this summer. I'm not sure I could push the mill through most of what I cut. Even with a new blade it struggles to cut some of the logs I put on it. Have to go pretty slow. Thanks for commenting. I missed it and haven't been watching lately. STAY SAFE!!

Hi Travis!!😀😀 I was surprised to see that they were using rope for the drive on the newer mills. The old L T 40 that I used to borrow from my buddy had a chain drive system on them. They had the chain ran different than the way you routed yours. They had two chains. One from the crank down to the one sprocket. Then just a single piece of chain from one end to the other that just laid on top of the other sprocket. So as you turned the crank the inner sprocket just traveled back and forth down the long chain. I hope I described that so you understand what I mean. The LT40 that I used had the power drive system on it with the Rio stat switch on it to adjust the speed. That way the chains don't have to cross from one side to the other. Take care my friend!!😀😀
@307j.o.a.t94 жыл бұрын
You explained great. Yea i dont understand the rope either. Im planning on putting a 12v variable speed reversible motor on someday. It works pretty gppd though the way it is. Way better than the rope. Thanks for all the support!! STAY SAFE!!!
@aldredske61974 жыл бұрын
@@307j.o.a.t9 cool glad I did good. LOL!! That rope thing is definitely for the birds. It just was a way to make it cheaper on their part. Mike Morgan has the rope drive on his also. He is adjusting it a lot it seems. The chain setup on the older mills never gave hardly any trouble. I milled 20 thousand feet of lumber the first time I borrowed it and didn't have any problems at all. Never even needed to take up any tension.
@307j.o.a.t94 жыл бұрын
Nice! Yea i wasnt impressed. I like the chain system way better!!

Have been looking into this for you since my last reply. Linn sawmills has a chain drive feed system as an option. The cost is $250. might be worth looking into.

That is great and no wasted energy from slippage losses. I wonder if using link belt in place of the ropes would be easier ( though clearly not as good as chain).
@307j.o.a.t93 жыл бұрын
That might work. I would definently use smaller chain if i did it again just so links dont rub on the lower pulleys. There is barely enough room with this chain.
@TheBeardedCarpenter4 жыл бұрын
Howdy Travis- good fixin on the mill. Looking forward to seeing it run. I don’t see how a rope system would work very long. Take care and God bless y’all
@307j.o.a.t94 жыл бұрын
It doesnt work for very long. Constantly have to tighten it. Rack and pinion would be really nice!! The chain system works well though. Smaller chain would have been better but this is what i had. Hope youre doin well. Thank you for all your support!! STAY SAFE!!

Thanks for sharing. Question: Do you have your bed rails bolted to the wooden substructure...or are they just sitting on the substructure? Thanks.
@307j.o.a.t94 жыл бұрын
They are bolted to the 4x4s and the 4x4s are on skids that are staked to the ground. The mill doesnt move when i put big logs on it. Back a few months i have a vid of setting it up.

OK, seeing that, not how I would do it given the same chain, idlers and sprocket... if you go to 22:45 I would have welded a piece of thick walled tubing across the top of the two vertical lengths at the bottom of the upright RHS section. run an axle or bolt through there with the idler on the end. The chain would stay in a single line, not crossing over at the dual idler you have... instead, running horizontally, around the first idler at the pipe that got welded on, vertically up to the pulley and around, then down to where you have two idlers and I would have had just one, then around that second idler and horizontally again to reach the end. ________/*/_____
@307j.o.a.t93 жыл бұрын
That would work. I didnt want to modify the mill and i already had the mounting holes where the origional equipment was. Thanks for commenting.

@@307j.o.a.t9 did you ever get the smaller chain? going single idler wide rather than two would mean clearance to refit the plates at 23:10

@307j.o.a.t94 жыл бұрын
For sure. If you can find enough chain and idler sproclets. Im sure they can be built too out of junk bicycle parts. I didnt have a source for the chain to do that.
