WOODPECKER CALL

We have one in our backyard Maple tree- named him Woody 😂. Love his call, so unique! He always announces himself before he flies down on the feeder.

I love listening for that call here in Mississippi. Such a unique sound; nobody else sounds like that. The males are very territorial. If one tries to move in on another guy's territory, man they can really fight! It's also fun when they peck on metallic objects; I think they just do it for fun because it sounds cool.

I had one in my backyard up in my live oak here in Central FL . I go to get my binoculars and as soon as I spot him again , my damn neighbor started weed eating and it scared the bird away . 🤯

Thanks for this. I heard this call coming from high up in a tree. I couldn't quite make out what bird it was from so far away, but I saw the hint of red and was guessing it was a woodpecker. This video confirmed my speculation. :)

Have one living in a dead palm tree in my yard. Couldn't figure out what bird was making that chirping sound until I looked up and saw a male red bellied woodpecker poking his head out from the hollowed out den he made for himself in the tree trunk up high. As long as he's not pecking away at my house, he can have the palm tree all to himself.

The Red-bellied Woodpecker certainly has a cool call, but Woody Woodpecker, the classic cartoon character, is likely a Pileated Woodpecker. They are lovely, large and loud.

I was thinking that too. They have a very specific sound to their call. I can always spot one out in the woods. They like older trees cause they have more bugs and they are also softer to peck at.
