I'm an old guy now, age catching up to me quicker than I anticipated. I fully enjoy watching these episodes from the warmth of the family room in front of a fire with a cup of coffee. It's a fantasy to see you do here something I would have loved to do as a boy, but never having the proper guidance to do so. I passed through adulthood, forgot about this fantasy, then have it reappear again in my twilight years. I appreciate what you have done and sharing it here. Thanx.👍
I was impressed to learn a new way to split a log. That was really cool.

I haven't done this in three decades. I had one thin blanket, a knife, a mess kit, some twine. I built a lean to, covered with evergreen branchs, made a similar bed. After setting up camp I changed into dry unerwear, That was cold. But I warmed up with suupper, pork chop, potato and went to bed. Got up well before dawn, had breakfst, hiked out before the sun came up. I went back to that site two years later, had a great pile of elevated kindling and small firewood.

To be fair a lot of forests actually do benefit from some of the saplings and undergrowth being cut... Many times with spruce they end up naturally culling a lot of themselves anyways because they sprout up too thick and competition takes place.

I enjoyed the video. One suggestion, it has been a habit of mine as a former wilderness and big game hunting guide to always start a fire as soon as I know where I’m going to camp. After I get my fire going, I begin the shelter and gather wood as I’m doing so. Accidents do happen, in one may not be able to collect firewood.
