I’ve got the same pack I heated wax and painted it on with a brush then heat gun to really help it sink in. I use the pack independently in the summer and with a large aluminum frame from a vintage backpack in the winter. Makes it kind of modular and the frame is great for hauling wood water etc. cheers on the video thanks

I use the German ruck for day trips and weekends, and a large ALICE for longer trips or carrying winter gear. Great video, Blackie!

Thanks Blackie! Very informative! I also carry a haversack with food separate from my ruck on extended trips.

It amazes me how you and others can go camping with so little. It's I have to over pack every time. At the Voo I had a truck bed full and used no more that 20% of it. The beauty of a hammock is you can set it up on uneven or damp ground and I've set mine up in the rain before, set tarp up first then every is under cover to stay dry. Thanks for sharing.

i did the same 25+ yrs rendezvous (southeastern /easter/old northwest)..carried way to much because i was packing a wife..i camped as a boy with very very little..then when i went to voo's i was living out of a packbasket..when wife joined me it grew to a 10X12 wall tent beds boxes..ect..in the end it took 2 hrs to set up..i came back to my roots in woodscraft and now i tote what i need..and very little else..but to be honest on many of these camps i go to now i carry lots of extra gear cause people want me to teach and demo..so i gotta have the stuff fer that..but there is a lot to be said for a haversack and a bedroll a light hammock..and time to wander

Great video Blackie. I also have the German Alpine Ruck and it's a great pack. But I have a question, you mentioned carrying your food in your Haversack, but in your gear load out all you had was a spoon, what do you cook with?

I like the pack and the system but am wondering why the dry bag is inside out because when I was in the Marines I was drilled in to always have the green side out because it makes it more water proof and easier to remove when getting the pack cleaned and re water proofed or did you find it better the way you have it. Please let me know I am very interested.

in the marines and in the army it was as you say..however..with pulling stuff in and out the rubber liners is worn off to easy..so i put it inside out so the nylon side is to the gear and it will not develop holes as easy..then it does i patch with good ducktape on the rubber side

Nice basic loadout... not too different from what I carry. My 3 sesson pack is never over 20lbs and that is with water and cook kit. The are usually plenty of water sources around here so I never carry more than a liter. Food depends on where and how long I am gone. I too keep it separate so that it can be hoisted out of the reach of critters. If you carry food in your pack your pack smells like food and can attract vermin and critters. I learned that lesson when I ended up with a pack full of ants... and they were hard to evict. Lol Blessings... later.....
