Excellent field kit Wade. Hi Nova! I've been carrying the Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener for years, even at work in Produce, and I take it to my gal's place to sharpen her kitchen knives. It works great, especially since she doesn't want a lot of stuff at her place. I'm on my second one now. I have tons of sharpening gear, from water stones to the Wicked Sharp and Work Sharp stations. I find myself just grabbing a stone and strop most of the time for giving stuff a proper work up. Tracker/WSK knives, take a bit more finesse. Jim at Bushcraft Costa Rica does a great demos on this and I've tried to follow his methods for those multiple edges.

Pretty much the same things I do, but good to know I'm on the right page! Never heard of the Autosol, so thanks for that. I've been using Flitz, but I'll give your Autosol a try to see which I like better! Always open to trying new ideas!

Nice tutorial, Wade. Great kit! I did pick up some useful pointers. I've never used "Autosol" but have used "Flitz" polishing compound. No idea which might be better. I think I'd like to try that Work Sharp, it'd help me improve my horrible sharpening angles! I mostly use my newest DMT Diamond Sharpening stone and a strop. I have to say I love your wood shed, but, where I live, I'd be a bit worried about lingering there with venomous snakes, scorpions, black widows, fiddle-back spiders and hornets. I'm just glad we don't have fire ants here _... yet._ Hope Canada is a bit safer in that regard. The wind in the trees and that train whistle are almost therapeutic! Actually, so are the gentle, repetitive strokes of your knife against the stones. Even though ASMR doesn't affect me as others profess, a few moments with nothing but those sounds while enjoying the scenery in your camp, beside a river/lake or, maybe, while you prepare one of your scrumptious meals might make a relaxing ASMR video (or short segment of your normal one) if you're ever so inclined! That said, I always enjoy your commentaries! Hi Nova -- you're a beautiful lass! I hope your sister, River, is improving steadily without growing too impatient. Glad you came along to keep Wade company!! :) ---- Thanks, Wade!

Sharpening and maintenance is a great topic to come back to from time to time; we are always learning, especially as we work with different grinds, steels and usage. Over the last year or so, I have been using a medium sized knife in CPM-154 probably more than any other knife. It is very slicy, maintains an edge, and mostly all I do is touch it up with a ceramic rod. I did strop it once (sort of) by putting some mineral oil on it, and then running it over a rag cut out of an old t-shirt, on the edge of a wooden picnic table. I know this sounds questionable, but the knife got at least as sharp as it was new. I haven't abused the knife, so I don't know how resilient CPM-154 is vs. other steels, but I cut brush & limb saplings with it in the field, if I don't have a machete or axe with me. I was surprised how much more impressive the CPM-154 is as compared to 154CM steel. And it doesn't rot, which is a big plus where I live.

A great video with really helpful tips and tricks 👍. I am using almost the same kit in the field. I added a Sharpie to color the edge to the kit. Also I added a pencil eraser/rubber (the white eraser/rubber from Faber-Castell works perfect for me, costs about 1.5 Canadian Dollar). The eraser removes the grinding dust from any ceramic or diamond sharpener very easy in the field, is cheap, lightweight and small.
