Maybe a useful tip. I take the blocks and add about an inch in length. I then glue just the end 1/4-1/2" of all the blocks together. After turning, just trim the ends off before the glue and there's zero fight to pull them apart!

Could you start with a single block, do the ornamental turning, and then quarter it on a bandsaw with a fine blade to avoid all the faff with the paper, glue and tape?

An idea. What if you made the blocks longer and not round them off. Do your turning on the outside, and then like you did do the outside but do it so you can separate them and glue with the first outside turning back to the outside. Then turn the square ends down? I'm not sure I explained it well.. Thanks.

use a chuck on both ends you wont have to glue nothing untile you do the last part

Have you though about macking a set of Mandrels with a squair reses the size to sute then no gluing needed just a though

maybe strap the blanks together with filament tape at either end instead of gluing the newspape into the joint?

You could have taken at least another 1/4 inch off the center diameter, and expose the inside. Still, quite nice.

Ever thought of writing your text out before taping your video? It probably would speed up things by a factor two: you're really very s.l.o.w. Another tip: if you're repeating a certain operation (like gluing pieces of paper onto sticks of wood), it's clear enough to show the action once, and then show the end result afterwards, in stead of taking us through the same process several times.
