Turning a chunk of cedar wood into a pretty bowl with interesting grain patterns. It has lips…or a mustache and lip… Either way, this is Solid Cedar II Thanks for watching!

My cedar chest is still lovely. And has seasoned through the years! Made by Amish craftsmen years ago, with a striped inside of different grains - and the special hinge they make...I got it on sale for $99. The Amish gentleman who sold it to me, walked it across the park to our house in the rain...and asked me for a heavy towel to wipe it. The finish was unharmed. I could not believe the craftsmanship. And decades later, when I open it, lean down and sniff...there is still that faint whiff of lovely cedar..

Greetings Sir Humphrey, I have a title for this amazing piece! The first thing that came to my mind is the eye of the tiger, so I personally would call it "Tigers Eye," it's amazing how the very center of the bowl looks just like a tigers eye & when you rotate the bowl, I can't help but feel like the tiger's rolling just like a cat at play! I hope you save those amazing shavings & make something special with a very pale amber resin to complement the colors within the wood but not take away from the shavings natural wood color. Another home run Sir Humphrey 👏👏 👍❣ The ring you showcased was incredibly gorgeous! It draws your eye into it, I keep going back to gaze into the grain! Absolutely Mesmerizing!! Paul, awesome platter & thank you so much Sir for your service 🤗 👍 ✝️ God bless & I pray He keeps His hedge of protection about all of our Military, active, retired, & especially our disabled veterans, me & mine send you all respectful loving 💞 prayers 🙏 & hugs 🤗 Robyn 🙋♀️& Bill - (DAV - Navy Officer) 🙋♂️

I am a new turner and have yet to turn cedar, I’ll bet your shop smelled great! My wife and I just purchased her great uncles old home place, will have to take down and salvage the wood from the old house. There are several old cedars, some of which will have to come down and as we were walking around I told my wife that one tree had a LOT of bowls in it!

Beautiful work Rod. When I had my millwork company, we did several hundred jobs of Cedar, everything from rough sawn cedar siding to beautiful clear cedar for millwork. I love the smell of fresh cut cedar. One job we did, we had to take a 6" x 18" 18' and cut an arch into it for an English Tudor house. That was a fun project.
