Thank you Mr. Wegner. That's a pure joy to see a chunk of wood turning into something smooth and elegant like these chess figures. You're one of several woodworkers who force me to start working on wood myself. I'll have to start with dremel tools though. Got no space for all those cool and tricky woodturning and sanding and etc machines.

Lens Man Hi - Thanks for your comment! dremels are great tools with a lot of potential to make some really cool things. Please post what you do. I'm gonna subscribe. Thanks for watching!

James Wegner Oh, I will) If something worthy comes out, of course. By the way, what's the average price for that kind of ontable small lathe you use here? I've searched through some offers of our local market of used stuff in Moscow, Russia, and those of MC, JET JWL, DSL vary from approx. 1500 to 2000 USD according to todays rate... Not all of them used anyway... There's one quite simple but nice lookin' JET JWL-1443 for 850 USD new. Just iquiring the prices to sum up this beautiful hobby price. And also - do you do carving? Thank you
@BlackForestDesigns9 жыл бұрын
Lens Man Hello again. No - carving is something I'd lie to try to get good at. My lathe is from Central Machinery - link here: goo.gl/zdDq80

Hi James! Just a small QOL request from a viewer's perspective: When browsing through the different pieces it would be nice to have #s in the title of the video i.e. #1 The Pawns. I don't know why but it's cool to watch them in order of rank! Besides that the pieces so far look great and they definitely don't look like a rookie's work!
@longWriter9 жыл бұрын
Strange how the rooks are the most powerful pieces on the board apart from the queens, and yet they're often the second-smallest. I'm surprised they aren't made third-tallest instead in more chess sets. Regardless, amazing job. Someday I might want to try a project like this, but I haven't touched a lathe since 8th grade!

Where can I find a print out of measurements ? And the like?
@BlackForestDesigns8 жыл бұрын
In my head. Thanks for watching!
@WootTootZoot8 жыл бұрын
A couple of years ago, I made some large wooden toy soldiers like the ones in Babes In Toyland, but my own design and painted to look like the palace guards. I sold them at a craft fair, but during the fair, a guy comes up to me and says, "I can make those", so I said, "that's fine, go make some". He came back a while later with his wife to show her my work, and then said he wanted to take some pictures and measurements of my soldiers for plans. I said NO WAY, he got mad and started to argue, which at the time I thought was odd. However, I stood my ground, and told him if he could really make them, then go home and make his own designs. He left unhappy. Which is why when I see someone's own design and work and people asking for measurements, I get this little twitch in my left eye and want to reach though the computer and throw something large and heavy at them.
@jamesshephsrd9386 жыл бұрын
No mater what they will never make it the same as yours. And even if they did it would have been so time consuming that they wouldn't do it again orrr a simple ,I'm sorry but no.. And a little (thank you for looking at what I made) can go a long way. Have a good day.
