In this video I show the method I mostly use for turning spheres.
If you have watched my channel for a while you will know I have turned quite a lot of spheres. For a long time I used the cup chuck method where you hold the blank between two cups and rotate it 180 degrees in between passes. This method works fine but I always found I was taking extra passes to get the perfect sphere resulting in the sphere being smaller than I intended, so I now find it easier to use a couple of ply templates as shown in this video...

The way the resin interacts with the wood reminds me of the ancient Chinese watercolor scrolls, with the mountains vanishing into the mist. Otherworldly and awe-inspiring!

I've seen Nick Zammeti, Heath Knuckles and Ben's Worx use contraptions to create spheres but I think the old eyecrometer is the best. Much better result. Much like your example here. Brilliance.

Andy, if I had the equipment to do this, I would create these perfect hybrid spheres and bowls to hold them. But, even more than that, I would pierce them with tiny eyepins and suspend them on clear filament to create miniature solar systems in mid-air. This was so perfectly beautiful! 😍 Absolutely exquisite! ❤
