Shipping probably would make it not as good an option but in the United States there is a company called Frugal Vacuums. Great kits that work well. I have two friends using them flawlessly and way cheaper than my Oneway set up. You aren’t pushing them but to all who see this. Once you use one you will end up getting one

One big advantage you didn't mention is that a vacuum system will accommodate both live and natural edge bowls as well.

Hi Kerry, thanks for making the videos on the use of a vacuum chuck, lots of great information here what would be difficult to figure out from scratch. After watching this I feel I am better prepared for doing the research. So many points to buy a good one. It is not easy to anticipate the safety aspects if you have never used a vacuum chuck, like electricity shutting off or the pipe collapsing. Great info, much appreciated!

I've been wanting to incorporate a vacuum pump into my woodturning, mostly for wood stabilization purposes. Unfortunately my lathe isn't compatible with a vacuum chuck but I've got my eye on a new lathe that will be. If I can tackle the $2.5k for the lathe, a new vacuum chuck won't be far behind it. You've just reinforced my desire to up my turning game because nothing's more annoying to me than having a beautifully finished bowl and having to clear away a tenon and accidentally marring the foot of the bowl. Very informative video, especially the tips regarding the hvac line and hydraulic fittings. Thanks Kerry!

@@KerryCorney My lathe only has a hole opposite the headstock for a knockout bar, can't fit anything else through the hole that's there. Having taken off the housing around the headstock in the past (got a chuck stuck on the threads and don't have a spindle lock, either) it's apparent that the hole that passes through the spindle has all kind of gaps in the machinery that wouldn't allow for any kind of seal. I got the lathe with my employee discount when I worked at a tool store but was too green to know I should've saved a little more and found something better. Lesson learned, plus the limitations of my lathe have taught me a lot about how to 'make-do' with what I've got.

If you don't have a hole through your spindle, this will enable you to attach a hose to it and then a vacuum chuck.
